Default do I need a new gas cap?

got an SES light for "EVAP system small leak" and read that this is most commonly a result of a loose gas cap. I went to tighten mine and noticed that it just turns and turns and turns - clicking but never feeling any tighter. Is this what yours does? If this is normal I can rule this out and move on to finding leaks in the system somewhere....

yes, they turn and click forever. I had to replace mine once already, now I've got the same P0442 code again and I don't think its the gas cap this time, gotta check it out.

That code rarely is generated by the gas cap - a vacuum leak somewhere is the more likely culprit.
