Default LS9 Headgaskets on a notched 5.3 head. Will it leak?

Well I already foolishly put my motor together with the LS9 gaskets without realizing that it had the notches in the heads.

I only read about this issue today and after going back and reviewing my tear down pics the heads did appear to be notched. Tonight I pulled the engine back out of the car and sure enough the notches are clearly visible even with the heads bolted to the block.

I also used TTY head bolts so if I change heads I will be tossing those in the garbage without having run the motor even once.

Has anyone else used these gaskets on notched heads, did they leak?

Should I just go ahead and buy another set of heads without the notches?

I think I already know the answers to my questions but I am hoping that maybe I can get away with what I have right now.

Thanks for any help!

It sounds like your rant has answered your own worst fears......
I wouldn't run it and I'm pretty certain almost nobody will say "go ahead;
you should be fine"....unless they don't like you......

You could use gaskets that will work with the notches, or get different heads. I would not run them after seeing the issues that people have had.

New gaskets and head bolts are a small price to pay to save a ton of headaches later...

they will leak. maybe not at first, but run it down the road once or twice, and they will leak. get you a set of head studs. Once or twice having to pull the heads makes them all worthwhile.
