Decided to Powder my 10-spokes... little trouble.
I sold my DDC5 wheels a month or so back, and picked up a set of original 10-spokes with centercaps for $150. They were a little rough. 1 wheel had severe rash all the way around. Random gouges here and there in the others. I wanted a dark gunmetal with some light metallic and a little pearl. I ordered some powder titled "Dark Gunmetal Steel Pearlescant". The "stock photo" looked to be exactly what I wanted. Long story short, it was nowhere close...
Prepped:
Powdered:
Cured: Note: This is with an additional clear powder called Clear Stardust applied over it. I was pissed when it came out of the oven that it had almost NO metallic or pearl whatsoever, so applied this clear I had laying around in attempt to rectify. Not only did it not work, the grey is still WAY too light!
Here is an out of focus pic to illustrate how much sparkly crap is in the "Clear Stardust". WAY too much.
Needless to say, I was pissed. The company did agree to refund my money for the powder though.
So with 1 wheel that looked like crap, I decided to start mixing up my own powder to achieve the desired color/finish I wanted. I ended up with a 7-part mix of 60% gloss black, 2-part mix of the 80% gloss "Dark Gunmetal Steel Pearl" and 1 part of the "Clear Stardust", with a dash of bronze. Here is how that turned out:
Powdered:
Teaser, fresh out of the oven:
More pics to come. I will post better pics later and with them on the car. I'm leaving my house now to get them mounted. I will say, this is my first time mixing powders and I'm pleased with the outcome.

No I just hit all the areas I can get to with a DA and then hand sand all the other areas just to flatten the surface and promote adhesion. Ive never had a problem coating over something I previously coated.
Got them mounted up. They turned out just a touch darker than I had wanted, but other than that they came out great. I sprayed the centercaps this afternoon so I don't have any pics of the wheels with the caps on yet. Couple pics:
Mounted up and ready to put on:
After a little bath to get all the lube from the tire shop off, here they are. I ran out of time to get any good pics, but hopefully I will have some good ones on the car within a week. I plan to get a small green bowtie to match my car to put in the middle each centercap. My car is extremely dirty!!! Don't be that guy to point all the dirt and watermarks out!! lol I will get good pics ASAP, with a clean car and POSSIBLY 1/2" lower all around. Not sure on that yet..
The centercaps I used a factory dark metallic grey from gm. Close enough. They should be ready in a couple days:

Thanks! Yours look awesome. I really considered doing 35th clones but decided against it bexause I wanted a darker looking wheel.
I just did the outside face and about half way deep on the inside. The outside I only powdered about an inch inside the bead. Just the parts that can actually be seen.
