Default Possible solution to my 977+stock lifter problem)

If someone on here can tell me i can STILL use a single spring (918) on my new heads that already have 977's on them ..... i'll just order a set of 918's and be done with it .

(cam has only 554/575 lift)...its a 224/231-112

I just figured that since the heads have already been machined for a double spring, that its too late to go back now

I *think* the 977 spring is used with a different than stock length valve, so some shimming or other modifications would need to be done to run the 918s. The 977s and Comp "R" combo problems are way exagerrated, IMO. Several peple on here are running 977s and Comp "R"s without adjustable rockers without problem.

I don't know so ship them to me and i'll try them out for ya I'm kinda thinking the same thing but the 2700.00 for my new heads plus the additional 200 for injector and now the comp "R" lifters added to the mix the last thing i want to do is spend close to a grand more on f*cking rocker arms

Yeah, MY heads are still with A/S and i'm not broke yet {just going deeper in DEBT} The American way P.S. maybe comp cams will throw me a free set of adj RR for the strees that these 977 springs are causing

I run stock lifter and 977s, stock rockers. Cam is 236/242 and like .604/.610 lift (XER lobes)...spin to 7000 rpm. No problems at all. At the last PRI show I spoke to Brian Ebert...he does alot of work for Al Corda on his stock eliminator car. He said that this combo...if setup and shimmed right would not be a problem in the slightest. He said 95% of all spring/lifter/harmonic problem are due to too weak of spring or poorly setup valvetrain/springs.
I do have the larger Manly valves..they may be a lil longer...not sure. But when we set them up and measured spring pressure it was like 145 on the seat and 425 over the nose. No problems.

I am pulling the motor tommorrow to go through it...I will be using something other than the stock lifter at that point...along with some new heads with updated valve designs. But I just wanted to throw this info out there.
