Default LQ9 budget build need advice.

Looking to build something to throw into my Transam that weighs 3,200lbs. until next year when I finish the turbo LSX setup so I picked up a stock 6.0. I would like it to run 10's N/A and I will add 150n2o to it. My plan is to mill the heads .030, add ARP rod bolts, MLs head gaskets, cam, intake and headers. I already have a Moser built 9" rear with 3.70 gears and will be using either a glide or a Th400. It is a street/strip car and I have a 4K Precision converter already so I want a cam that will make good power from 4000-6500rpms. I have built alot of engines but this is my first 6.0 LS. Would like to stay with stock rockers and have the trunion upgraded but what intake will work good for this w/o spending $1.000 on that? Looking for a decent combo, nothing exoctic w/o breaking the bank. LMK Thanks Clint

Keep lift under .630 with stock rockers.

As far as intake, find a used fast intake.

Ok, whats a good cam choice and what are the best factory heads to use? I will do a cleanup job on the ports, valve job, springs and mill them or should I just pickup a set of used ported 243's? Will 5.3 heads work on a LS2?

243 heads with a basic clean up and valve job and a GM LS Hot Cam would make great power on a budget. There is a thread where a guy did this combo and made 400+ at the tires.

Ls6 heads is what I would use, and have TEA do the port work.

Custom specd cams are always a plus

No need to buy 243's when he already has 317's. On a budget for a temporary engine, a mill on the 317's and a decent port job will fit the bill and come in a lot cheaper.

If he has them sure. I said 243s because he asked about heads and I thought maybe he didn't get heads with the 6.0 he picked up.

I will check on the heads to see which ones it has. I was thinking of something bigger on the cam like 233/239@50 600-620lift on a 110-112 LSA.

Clint, glad to see you posting up....
I have seen a few budget set ups that really rocked!
6.0 shortblock
231/239 comp cam
Ls3 heads/ intake
seem to be low dollar high output especially on the spray!!!!!

To be honest Clint I am doing Ls based drivetrains in both of my cars now. Just because of the ease of power per dollar. Ltxtech has a bunch of die hard Lt1ers thant would most likely buy your goodies.
