Default 5.3 LY5 Intake swap & fitment

Wondering what the best options are for dropping this into my 70' Nova:

Will the truck intake fit under the stock hood? Im not really concerned with it being "ugly' as some say, im on a budget right now, so function is #1 priority.
The only future upgrades would be a mild cam swap and afm delete kit.

If it wont fit or i decide to not use it and go with different intake/drive by cable setup, what would be an acceptable donor? LS1? LS6?

What vehicle should i look for as donors?

And with the different intake i assume my accessories will not be compatible either?

prolly wont fit and just looks like plain sh** honestly. get an ls1 intake and fuel rails, you can reuse your injectors and the throttle body unless its drive by wire in which case youll need a drive by cable throttle body.

id say ls6 but since your on a budget the ls1 intakes are DIRT CHEAP.. buddy got one a few weeks ago with tbody, injectors, and fuel rails for $40

It is drive by wire. The engine is a 2008. Isn't there something about an LS1 TB hitting the water pump or something like that ? Would I have to change my accessories over also ?

Im in the middle of an LQ9 swap in a 71 Nova. Yes, the truck intake will fit under the hood. If you want to run a car intake, you will need a different waterpump as the neck on the truck intake will hit the bell crank of the throttle. With that, you will also need to run water pump spacers if you want to use the truck accessories to keep the belt alignment in check. Another thing needed would be to relocate the idler pulley which is pretty simple.

Your injectors are not a direct swap over to the car intake. They are not the same length and would require spacers. If you arent looking for big power, any LS1 intake would be fine. The LS6 intake is the most desireable and is found in the later f bodys 01-02 I believe, Vette, CTS-V and GTO

Ok cool. What motor mounts did you use? I want to use the original TH350, and keep it in its original place. I'm assuming Ill need a shorter mount for hood clearance?

Being that your engine is a gen IV, you have a dbw throttle body and the slanted neck waterpump. The gen iv ecms are not compatible with drive by cable throttle bodies. Installing a c6 pedal or camaro pedal is very simple. If you were to swap to a car intake, the only factory intake that is compatible with your 4 bolt throttle body is the ls2 intake. If you use your stock throttle body on an ls2 intake, it will clear the water pump.

Is your car a small block car? If it is, you can't put the engine in the stock location because the heater core tube is in the way. I started off wanting to do the same thing you are, but didnt like the clearance to the firewall and heater core. Then I bought neutral plates (carshop 2349) and they didnt work with my frame stands and the stock mounts have a raised surface on the back which interfered with the plates. Ended up buying Dirty Dingo sliders and am very happy with them! Pricey, but they fit great and you can position the engine where you want it. I moved mine forward of the original SBC location about 3/4" and was still able to reuse my trans cross member by slotting the mount holes about a 1/4"

As for the water pump conversion, I used LS1 pump and swapped the truck pulley. It was cheaper than buying $80 waterpump spacers. Also you will need to move the idler pulley. I cut the section off the bracket and used the mounting bolt directly under the alt, I made a longer bolt and used a sleeve to space out the pulley. Then I put the DBW '03 truck TB on the LS1 intake. Had to block off the vent passage in the TB or there would have been a leak. I then put a breather on the valve cover vent tube.

Mine is original SBC. Ok , I thought I read somewhere about changing to a BBC heater core, which allows more clearance to the tubes?? Not sure on that though. I have no harness or computer, so I'm looking at PSI conversions harness & ECM. Which would total $900. And Retain the DBW.

I would recommend the BBC heater core conversion regardless of where the engine is placed. Moves them out of the way altogether and looks much cleaner. The core runs about $35, you need to redrill your stock cover or buy a new one for around $65, and then you need a tube retainer plate which is about $25

No, I dont have my build on here. Its slow going and I dont have a lot of time to post and document my progress. I am working on headers now. I originally planned on starting with manifolds and then switching to headers, but I decided to wait til I could afford headers and do it one time. I have a set of LS swap headers right now from a 73 chevelle that I am trying to make work. Its very tight as they are not for the Nova and they are also 2" primaries. The only reason I am trying to make them work is that they are custom Lemons headers and are very nice build quality and I can buy them from a friend for a great price. If these wont work out without a ton of mods, then I will be buying Dougs headers to use. I attached a couple pics

I used stock tensioner and a new belt. Changed the routing. There are plenty more pics in my thread.

Im planning a swap with a 2007 LY2 4.8 .I need to know what passenger car pedals will work with it. Will the C6 or Camaro pedal work. 2007 Pontiac G6 uses the same ECM but the sensor is different part #.

I used the 03 truck pedal and TAC that came with my engine. I had to cut 5 or 6 inches out of it (was way too long) but it mounted and works perfect.
