Default Boosted 5.3 guys drop in.

Just wondering what kind of boost everyone is running on their 5.3s. We all know they have a reputation for being tuff little SOB’s but wanted to see some real numbers and durability.
List your vehicle, engine mileage, miles since boost, blower/turbo set up and details about boost levels.

05 Z71 crew cab, 97,000 miles, 30K on Eaton M112, peak boost at a safe 8lbs.

Truck also made 386 torque and 347 whp on a mustang dyno. Figuring 12% change on a dyno jet that works out to about 432tq and 396whp

My stock bottom end 5.3 with ls9 gaskets, head studs and a cam makes 787hp at 21lbs of boost. It's on E85. Not many miles on the turbo setup but the shortblock had 31k on it when the heads came off and new gaskets/studs went in.
They are tough little engines!

What kind of psi is safe to run on 91 octane? I know guys with E85 can push well into the 20's, but we don't have E85 readily available. I do have methanol racing fuel readily available though, for a water/meth setup.

I would think spraying water/meth would get you close to E85 depending on the mixture. But keep in mind E85 is somthing like 105-108 octane. How many of you guys are on stock bottom ends.

2004 lq4 (I know not a 5.3) engine had 144k when installed. Completely stock except cam, springs and cometic head gaskets. Ran hard on E85 and 70mm turbo at 19-20 lbs. Turbo started leaking oil into the charge air and caused detonation (Im assuming) and lifted #5 ring lands and bent #5 rod. Im sure it did more but I didnt disassemble any further at that point. It made a 4700lb 4x4 truck a handful and fun while it lasted.

i was running 18-19psi with a pt7675 and went 109mph in the 1/8th mile (3800+lbs) spinning through each gear. the 109mph run i hit and held the limiter in 3rd gear before the first timing box til the end, so atleast 60-70 feet before the end of the track was on the limiter. i run 16° of timing and meth injection on 91.

i ended up killing the motor with a 3-2 shift and it saw ~8500 rpm. ooops. was running stock pushrods and it didnt bend them, no valve contact.. just killed the rod bearings, still drove it home with 10 psi oil pressure. id say theyre tough! mine was starting to chew the bearings prior by seeing a bunch of junk in the filters but i beat the hell out of it for 6k miles... and admittedly i ran it low on oil a couple times under acceleration it uncovered the pickup tube

Check my thread out, you can get an idea if what to do in your project . Extended cab 06 Silverado 5.3 with a garret internal 76mm turbo. Truck has no lag. Only issue is gears, stall and better fuel system to get better ET times

Keep the stock heads or go with some 243s. With the 317s it will be terrible until you build some boost.
