Default stock bottom end

what would be the first thing to go when your making to much power like what is the weakest part of an ls bottom end? pistons rods rod bolts?

If turning a lot of RPM then rods and rod bolts.

If throwing on alot of boost or nitrous then the pistons will be the weak link.

With a good tune, quality gas and spinning it to non-astronomical RPMs that engine should last a long time.

At 8 pounds you should have no problems as long as you don't get rpm crazy. They key is a good tune.

how hard would it be to get a good tune with a carb and a msd 6010?

It's actually pretty easy with the timing retard feature. The msd 6010 is very user friendly and is easy to tune with a laptop. Just get a blow thru carb and you good to go...check out this months Car Craft Engine Swap magazine, there is a yellow turbo LS powered maverick witha nice budget setup...
