Default What needs to be done to make a 94 cluster work in a 93?

Getting rid of that ugly yellow. I already have the cluster installed but have heard the tach wont work. I haven't started the car yet to even try. I will after work today.

What needs to be done?

Thanks!

Sweet. Hopefully it works. I have been reading that some people have problems with the tach not working and just bouncing around. I'll have to try it as soon as I get home.

I swapped one in to see if it would cure my bouncing speedo issue. It worked just the same as the stock one. It now reads 0 miles and is waiting for my new engine.

Im pretty sure more than one of the gauges dont work.If you have a haynes or chilton manual look at the wiring diagram, night and day difference in some gauges.I speak from experience as well. OP hope you get it figured out. I didn't feel like rewiring anything so I removed the needles and white gauge face(94-96) itself and switched it to my 93 cluster, just be careful if you go this route.

Tach jumps around. Same as the other people I have been hearing with issues. Everything else looked okay tho.

I have read that the problem relies on the computer. 94 it switched from EPROM to ?? But the rpm is ran off the coil and some "filter" needs to go inline? Pretty clueless???

Any help is appreciated.

I always heard their was just a filter you had to wire in or remove...But have never done it personally..

by that i mean a filter on the tach signal wire from the coil.

The tach signal on a 93 was sent directly from the coil to the tach (with a filter wired in the harness at the tach). I have no idea where you could get a filter to add, if you needed it (aside from robbing one from an old harness).

The tach signal in subsequent years was sent from the PCM to the tach.

You can see the difference in the Distributor Ignition System Schematics listed on my website.

Whether the tach in the dash is exactly the same for all years, I don't know, but I would be inclined to think so.

Thanks for the info. Could I swap over the circuit board? It would prObably be the easiest.

Security light is on after swap (was before the board swap too) any reasons why? It still let's me start it. Haven't left it run for long enough to know if it shuts off.

My 95 Z28 has the 110 speedo and I want to switch over to the 160. Do I need to buy the whole cluster? And should that affect the fit thru the rest of the dash?
