Default Cam Install

So I'm making the plans to do cam, rods, rockers, and springs. My question is, and feel free to throw rocks and mustangs at me for asking this but is it possible to install all this while the engine is still in the car. I don't have a lift that I can use here in the metro of Oklahoma City :/

The car is a 98' TA LS1

Of course you can do it in the car. In fact it would be silly to remove the engine for something as simple as a cam swap.

Well i have been talking to Comp Cams off an on, and so far i have like the sound of this cam.

My car is going to be a DD so i cant do anything to extream, i also planed on doing full head work and mybe new valves if mine look bad. may also at the same time do my long tube headers, but since my car is lowered 2" with eibach springs im concered with ground clearence.

I was looking at your list and technically you don't need new retainers and locks as the stock ones will work fine with comp 918 springs, it is nice to upgrade them but they aren't a necessity....nice streetable cam though..and as long as you remove radiator and condenser it will give enough room (barely) to remove the cam...good luck bro

I might as well as replace them to eliminate any problems in the future

you should have headers before you do a cam swap imo as it will maximize the car's potential.

I would do a 54-428-11 or the Texas Speed 228r. I just bought the comp 54-428-11 its a 228/230 .571/.573 112+4 and very happy with it. When I called comp that's whats they recommended to me. It should have 380 rwhp. Or call Texas Speed and they will set you up with the cam, springs, push rods and tune to have you up and running. Are you an a4 or m6? If you have an auto you will need a stall like a 3200 or 3600. You will love the performance of the car. Headers are a must, like the other guy said, even for a stock motor. If you have an auto and don't want to do a stall look at Texas Speed 224r or the comp 54-426-11 will be fine. I did a stall and bolt-ons (headers, intake, stall, tune and ran 12.28) if you haven't done the bolt-ons, you might want to do those first. Those are the most bang for the buck.

Im waiting to do my headers till spring "i hate working in the cold lol" but idk i dont want to agressive of a cam, i dont plan on running on the track, i just love the sound and i would love the power gain. but its my DD and i dont want something thats not ethical for my car to be drving 40-50 miles a day

Is your car and Auto or Six Speed?
You might look into some mid length headers if they are still being manufactured.
