Default L76 Question

I am currently collecting parts for my L76 build/240Z. I have an 3 bolt style EPS cam 230/242-.600/.603 113 lsa, double valve springs, 7.425 push rods and a Texas Speed DOD Delete kit.

I have read where when replacing the upper timing gear to a new LS2 3 bolt design I must also use the smaller LS2 timing cover as the cam sensor will be too far out with the 3 bolt style timing gear. Also that it will delete the VVT.

My question is this the only way to go when replacing the one bolt timing gear with the 3 bolt LS2 timing gear, am I missing something here. I do not want to re-invent the wheel here just add a cam and delete the DOD.

Thanks,
Mike
