Met up with a few people last night to stretch the legs on the Sonata. I would have taken out the Regal but there was nothing worth racing
So my buddy has a 2008 TL type S. 286hp 3.5L, auto. I'm not sure how much, if any slower they are than the 6spd but I have another friend who trapped 102 in a 6spd car.
Anyhow we lined it up from a 25 roll, which was a mistake for the Sonata. The lag from the throttle and no power in 1st gear due to boost limiting gave the TL a nice 1 car jump. But the Sonata wasn't giving up so easily! We kept in it and she started creeping back, by 90 we were even with the Sonata pulling ahead. The faster we went the harder the Sonata pulled. By 120ish I would say the Sonata had a solid 2-3 car lengths.
We ran it again from a 45-50 roll. The throttle lag is still evident but not as obnoxious. He gets a little hit but nothing major. The Sonata stops his pull and passes him on it's way to a solid 3-5 car lead by 120.
Good runs! I love this 4 banger Hyundai

I think that Sonata would be great competition for my car. I raced a 6-speed TL, with the J35A8 (pretty sure the type-S has the same engine) and probably had him by about 2 cars from 40-90ish. All these sedans are getting fast nowadays!

I was surprised that the Sonata pulled back from a first gear roll, even after giving up such a big hit.
Above 100 this thing is really cranking out relative to what it's 1/4 mile times and speeds suggest.

Those newer Honda V6's are no joke, I'm impressed by the Sonata. 2.0 turbos ftw! How easy is it to mod those?
