Default Is it possible to shorten axels on a stock 10 bolt?

Can I do this? Currently have 15x10 Weld wheels, 7.5" backspacing with 325 DR's and a wheels spacer. But with the wheel spacer it rubs the outer fender when going over bumps. Im going to do mini tubs and would like to shorten axels to run the same wheels but with 5.5" backspacing. I know I have to move the LCA's, just want to know what I have to do to shorten axels 2".

If I'm shortening 2" each side do I have to cut and re weld the housing or will it accept the shorter axels.

With the work involved in that you could build a stronger rear than the weak 10bolt, not worth the time IMO. Why are you running a spacer with a 15x10 with 7.5 bs?

Its very possible but are planning on pushing big power on your car? If you are, its not worth investing time and money on your 10 bolt.

I have like a 5/16" spacer or some size because the tire is super close to the boxed LCAs I have and it also comes super close to hitting the inner fender when I hit bumps. I can actually see rub marks on both the LCAs and inner fender.

I'll be installing minitubs and moving the LCAs soon. I'm just wondering if its as easy as just putting 2" shorter axels in or if I have to cut the housing and reweld and all that other stuff. If thats the case then yea, I'll just get a 12 bolts. If no cutting is involved then I'd like to just drop the axels in.

And as of now I have chrome Z-28 wheels on the front and Weld RT-S wheels 7.5" bs on the rear. I dont want to buy the matching fronts because not only do I want 5.5"bs on the rear but I want to switch them to the same wheels but black spokes, then get the matching black wheels for the front. Like I said if I can get away with the shorter axels I'd like to do that now for a really long temporary fix if its that easy. But also like I said if all that work is involved I'll just roll with mismatching wheels and save for 12 bolt.

Yes you would have to cut the rear down to narrow your rear

I think a 12 bolt is a strong unit. I seem cars run 8's on one.

I just don't know why people buy the 12 bolt when you can get a MWC or Burkhart Fab 9" for the same price that will be your last rear end you will buy period.
