ALL the valves are stuck open? Check you push rod length BUTT 1st pull ALL the rocker back off then do a comp test.

push rods are too long by at least .025". This bottoms out the hydraulic lifter
plunger and essentially makes it solid, then begins to open the valves......IE
no compression.

Yep, valves are open. What pushrods are in it?

You need to measure thats how you find out.

Aftermarket cams normally have a smaller base circle, and if you have milled heads thats a factor also.

Maybe a dumb question but is the gauge broken? Someone I know had that issue and it was the gauge.

If the cam was out, or timing chain off, maybe you have the timing off causing the valves to hang open. Either that or too long of pushrods. I would get a pushrod length checker anyway its a nice tool to have around at $20. Also if you had too long of pushrods, the lifters are probably bled out like someone mentioned above from being turned essentially into a solid lifter. If it was me, I'de pull the heads and re-soak the lifters in oil again before firing the motor up with the right pushrods.

Even if the heads were milled .030, the pushrods would not be too long.
My guess is that the lifters are pumped up from the old setup and the valves are hung open. I would think crank it for a bit and see if the lifters re-center.

Did you leave off the rocker arm pedestal when you put it back together? It sure sounds like it.

i would guess the motor has been cranked atleast 40 times to try to start should that be substantal enough to recenter the lifters?

soaking the Lifters will make it worse. That is the last thing you want to do to a lifter. Assembly lube or a quick splash of oil is enough.
