5.3l turbo build
hey guys I was setting up my 5.3l and wondered if there were any suggestions for turbo sizing. I really wanted it to spool quick for street driving and I'm not expecting a ton of hp from it. I hoped for 450 rwhp on a stock cam or an ls1 cause the ls6 cam is looking a little pricey. can one realistically expect much boost at 2000-2500 rpms?

Well since a $150 cam is out of the budget Ill assume you want a cheap turbo too. Thats fine for what your wanting to do. A Turbonetics TC76 is perfect for your low power, quick spool goals. There is one in the classifieds now and they are cheap. Want even cheaper, the On3 70 or 76 will work too.
If you want to spend a little more with future power goals a little higher, get a Precision 7675 with the .81 ar. It will spool very quickly and you can later switch to a .96 housing and make 850+whp with the same turbo. The others mentioned wont do it.

thanks for the advice, are those turbos mentioned .81 ar or smaller?
i was thinking the ls1 or ls6 cam for the budget mindedness of the build but if its not much of a gain over stock 5.3l then i guess not.... the stock cam is such loowww lift though.

was thinking about a cam and spring set like this too. I know its not the perfect turbo cam but the intake and exhaust duration are pretty close:

i was also wondering when you said i need valvesprings you probably meant dual springs? and i know ppl say some things about comp duals that they break and such.
