Talking Rogue eats dust!

On my way to work this morning, last day of my winter internship. The roads have that glare from the sun reflecting off the black ice; good thing I took my mom's '04 Explorer instead of the 'Vette today or I'd probably have become quickly acquainted with a telephone pole...

The road splits into two lanes temporarily, and there is a light. The road merges into one lane in roughly 400 feet. I stop and a new Nissan Rogue pulls up next to me and stops rather abruptly. Women drivers...

I didn't think much of it, but nonetheless I was ready for anything as always. The light turns green and the freakin' Rogue takes off!! I put the pedal to the floor and.... nothing! Drive-by-wire blows!

Finally the stubborn Explorer downshifts, and I get something I'm not used to in wet conditions - traction! The ol' Ford 4.0 V6 screams to a walloping 4000 rpm and dusts the sorry Rogue by two Explorerlengths to 45 mph. Not a bad way to start the day

I never realized how bad drive-by-wire really is until today, the throttle response just isn't there. Maybe they've fixed that on newer cars? Idk.

Yes, I'm bored at work.

A kill is a kill, no matter how slow. I don't care what anyone says, slow car racing is fun, and funny

Oh, nice kill. Get videos next time!

I was about to comment thinking the exploder was a v8. I was gonna offer a race vs the v6 f150 but, I'd need to give you a car and the hit I think

Hahaha the Explorer can't get out of it's own way, it's a true sled. But it can do AWD launches so that F150 better watch out!!!

Top of 3rd @ 50 mph??? That's some gear right there!

Yeah it sucks a fat one. In addition, the tranny takes forever to downshift, so the SUV doesn't move for what feels like an eternity after pressing the pedal.
I know a kid with a VW Cabrio (lmao) and it's also DBW. When he steps on the clutch to shift, the rpm's increase and every shift shakes the car!

Wait..so you were stopped at a light and a Rogue pulled up next to you. The Light turns green and the Rogue takes off and you had to wait for the transmission to downshift to be able to take off too?..from a stop?

Remind me to never buy an Explorer.

Clean the throttle body with the battery disconnected. Throttle response, transmission shift points, and overall drivability will improve dramatically. The power will still suck though.

Don't buy one, they suck! I think it shifted to 2nd at around 8mph before I decided to punch it, it took years to downshift back to first! At least we know Explorers can beat Rogues however

I think it's just the drive by wire system. Even when you want to accelerate slowly it still doesn't react right away. I don't understand why anyone would put DBW in a car....

Now you've got me thinking about mods for the Explorer, oh no...

All of Ford's electronic throttles suck, every bit as bad as the Eurotrash does. GM's ETC is much better. Regardless, Ford's PCMs are not very tolerant of carbon buildup on the throttle bore (even after the updated "sludge" PCM calibrations). The buildup causes correlation mismatches between the MAF tables and throttle angles, causing poor throttle response, incorrect shift timing, poor idle quality, and in some cases a check engine light with various DTCs.

Yeah they only make 210chp. That BLOWS for a V6 that big. Civic SI's make the same power with half the liters!

Interesting.... looks like I'll be checking out the throttle body. That could be what's causing all the lights on the dash
