.030 and nets you either 370ci with stock stroke or a 408 with 4" stroke

That's the most you can go? I know most of the piston manufacturers offer .065, .070 and .080" over pistons. I read I needed more than .030" for my LS3 heads

Yea you can go more. You said safely so I suggested .030, anymore than that and I highly highly recommend sonic checking the block to see how far you can go.

As far as the heads, the .030 would help with the valve shrouding for sure, but the bigger the bore the better.

.030 is safe without sonic checking. However, I always recommend sonic checking.

Also, you are correct in wanting a larger bore for the ls3 heads, however, it's not necessary. Remember, the ls3 heads came stock on the l76.

I know someone local took one .060 because he said that's what the ls3 heads needed. His car went 10.60s off the trailer first time out. No issues It's been together for a while now.

Ls3 heads need 4.00 minimum. Obviously, larger shrouds the intake valves less which is better, but you won't notice any power difference between a 364 and a 376 all things being equal.

I run LS3 heads on my 402 (4.005" bore) without issues. Although obviously bigger bores flow more.

The safe maximum for an LS1/LS6 is 3902 or 383, or at least that's what I have read. Now that's with a 5.7 aluminum block so with a 6.0 iron block like an lq4 or lq9 you have to have more room to play with than that.

The max rule of thumb I always heard for the 6.0 iron block was 30 over for boost and 60 over for nitrous/NA

Your cylinder wall thickness should be about .120 no less than .100 (in general terms)

Also, take note that gen 4 blocks are a better bet for a large bore. The casting process was better so core shift wasnt as prevalent, but theres plenty of gen 3 running large bores also. But for anyone looking to bore, the gen 4 may be a little more desireable to you.

that doesn't mean everyone should do that. no one is saying he can't go .060 but he should def. have it checked prior. i dont like that kind of mind frame that just because one guy did it without issue, everyone can do it also.

I dident mean that you should just go .060. Simply stateing whàt he did with out issue. Just kinda saying that it can be done. If it where mine. I'd just go enough to clean it up and roll with it. Sorry if I came off wrong.
