Default s10 sudo ls6 turbo m6 build thread

ok so obviously im new to this so here it goes

i currently have a 92 s10 with a 4.3l & nv3500 5 spd i built supercharged that made 344.4rwhp and 433.0 rwtq (assuming 18% drivetrain loss thats about 406.9hp and 510.94ft#.) and realizing that A the trans is only rated for 300# and im on borrowed time and B im a power addict. i ran across a t56 for sale locally. and the guy talked me into buying the 99 ls1 43k to go with it for 500 more. only catch is it had a fuel inj leak and caught fire burning the wiring harness. so here i am getting ready to build a ls6 similar spec. motor for the race 10. btw the 4.3 is for sale if any takers are out there blueprinted with 8k miles.

new goal is 600 crank hp high rev 6800 on mid mount turbo with meth. dont really need much bottom end torq s10s are light.

purchased (just started project a week ago so bare with me)
99 ls1 block, mains, crank, pcm, oil pump, valve covers, front rear, valley covers, throttle body, misc. not damaged in fire sensors,1 bank of coil pacs, ls1 flywheel, clutch, slave, t56,diablo predator tuner, balancer, timing gears, water pump, tensioner ( i have most everything else this is just what im using)will sell other parts if u need any

ok parts list purchased to date
ls6 intake
ls2 timing chain
hummer oil pan, windage tray, dip stick (for clearance)
scat 6.125"L .927" bushed forged rods+bolts
JE 3.905" -2cc forged pistons+rings
block bored to 3.905
arp 8740 main studs
arp 8740 head bolts
felpro mls head gasket 1160 L and R .053 crushed, 3.945 bore
je states with a .057 thick gasket comp will be 10.6:1 so should be 10.65ish(ls6ish spec.)
injectors siemens deka 65#/hr
holly efi fuel rails with my existing aeromotive FPR on the return
clevite 77 p series bearings
TSP 228r cam on 114LSA
TSP LS6 stg. 2.5 heads
TSP pushrods
LS7 lifters
Monster clutch and lightweight flywheel
Edelbrock 80mm throttle body
basically everybolt is ARP
NGK TR6 plugs
Taylor 10.4 wires

need

map sensor
maf ls6 85mm or speed density tune
headers 1 5/8 primary 2 1/2 collector prob. sandersons
power steering pump/resivoir
self made engine mounts utilizing 4.3l poly mounts
front bank o2 sensors
debating on trying hp tuners or just sending it out?
comp cam ls1 rocker trunion upgrade
fuel pump aeromotive 340 stealth?????? w/6AN

plan to get that running and then add turbo
thinking single 76mm t3 or t4 .81ar mounted just about where the bed and cab meet.prob. dual 2.5 to 3in to turbo, then 3 in split to 2.5 duals post turbo. make my own self contained oil system with -8 gravity drain to catch can (coupl qt.) capacity then to filter then to 12v pump to -6an line to the front of the truck where it will be cooled by a ZR2 s10 oil cooler before returning to the turbo.
i will plan to use my current devils own water meth inj. kit and not be intercooling it. thinking 6-8#s of boost. 10.6:1 static with 6#s will get me around 15:1 is that a safe number for these blocks? and head gasket lift issues? my 4.3l (iron block) had about 14.8:1.
havent decided on the diam. of charge piping yet.

im sure i missed some things but please let me know what you think. and if you have any of the parts i need hit me up.

any input is greatly appreciated!!!

The truck should move pretty good. I'm wondering if you'll be better off with 1 5/8" primary shorty headers to keep the exhaust velocity up. I'm doing twin 67's mounted just under the seats.

yea i had considered running shorties 1 5/8" primaries mainly for the ease of instillation. and you can get them ceramic coated. but i was worried about sacraficing top end. Ive already snapped an axle(cought on camera), ripped motor/trans. mounts and fractured a richmond locker with 28-11.50/15 hossier slicks so im not wanting a bottom end torq monster. mainly a mid to top end kinda thing. i have also considered the "twin" deal. have you started on yours yet? and if so how did it turn out?

o yea it will mostlikely eventually be gettin mini tub and link setup. and definately be gettin a fuel cell between the rear frame rails down low.(its gotta handle good as its also a zq8 suspension)

I think you need to do some more research before you buy some stuff, like 1 3/4" longtubes. They won't help with top-end, all they'll do is add lag and gain nothing positive. Also, I wouldn't run one of the cheap p-trim 76's, the turbine is just too small, especially if you're after top-end. A 7675 with a custom cam would be good.

Stock manifolds can easily make over 1200hp so there's really no need to spend money on headers. It's a lot harder to go too small on the hotside than too big. If you absolutely have to have headers, 1 5/8" primaries and 2 1/4" collectors are more than enough and will keep lag to a minimum.

I'm still in the disassemble part of the build. I should be getting one of the turbos today, so I can start fabbing up the mounts for the turbos. Make sure you wrap the **** out of the hotside piping to help with turbo lag

Sanderson headers are what he is talking about if I'm not mistaken. Also, save your money and run the stock 243 heads unported. If all you are looking for is 600 fwhp, then the heads won't hold you back much. It's money you could spend elsewhere for now..... If you want to wrap $2000 in heads then look for a used set of AFR's or TFS heads. I think TFS sells a "as cast" head for less than $2k? For them power levels it's not at all necessary though.

so how about the factory valves then. are they going to hold up at 7krpm and 600ish lift for 600ish hp in a set of non ported 243's?

Stock valves will be fine..... Plenty of guys making more than 600 hp with stock valves.

I have an ls6 camaro that makes 616 rwhp on 7lbs of boost. If you are interested in my build send me a pm. It is very easy to get there.

so does anybody have any personal experience with rear mount turbos as far as sizing a 76mm. I have heard .81 to .96 on the turbine side but what about the compressor side? i have heard from a sts guy that you typically want 1 size smaller turbine size than compresor for the rear. so would I need a .81 turbine with a .96 compressor? opinnions needed!

I wouldn't use anything smaller than a 75mm turbine wheel. I ran a tc78 with a 68mm turbine wheel and back pressure was a big issue . Mine was in a sonoma, but front mounted.
