Default '72 Cutlass LS2/6l80E swap

Hey all, just wanted to introduce my baby. And since I'm a lazy bastard, I'm just pasting my original intro post from pro-touring.com back in '05...you heard me. lol

Hey everyone, thought I'd join up and say hi, I'm sure I'll have lots of questions for everyone on down the line. I have a '72 Cutlass which I'd like to put a 6.0/4L80e combo into after I sell my '99 z28 (it was one or the other, couldnt part with the Cutlass). Here is the list of what she has so far:

Hotchkis springs and sway bars front and rear
Koni shocks
Hotchkis lower rear control arms w/Edelbrock no hop bars and adjustable uppers
Global West GenII upper and lower front control arms
Went from 4-wheel drums to Baer brakes (13" front on modified B-body spindles, 12" rear)
12 bolt from 70 Chevelle w/3.73 Richmond gears and Auburn posi
Be Cool radiator W/Flexalite dual 13" fans
Quick ratio steering box
All stainless steel brake lines throughout (fuel lines not installed yet)
Custom grey cloth/vinyl interior (nothing special, but looks purdy)
16" Cragar SS wheels wrapped with Yokohamas

Thats most of it.

She is in great shape and if it wasnt for 1 bad rod and 1 bad main bearing, I'd be driving her now. Thought about rebuilding the stock 350 but decided not to. Hope to pick all your brains later

Fast forward to today:
Wow, over 7 years, funny how life can get in the way of your plans. I'm finally getting back to my Cutlass so I suppose a reintroduction is in order. The car is blown apart right now but hoping to get her back on the road at some point over the summer. Even though all the parts I put on her are 7+ yrs old, they only have about 500 miles on them at the most so if it aint broke dont fix it. Here is whats changed:

'98 JGC steering box
'05 Silverado hydroboost
Hellwig adj rear sway bar
Rick's VaporWorx tank w/CTS-V module
UMI double adj LCAs
removed the anti-hop bars
HPI Customs chassis brace kit
370" forged LS2 w/LS3 topend, ZR1 cam, approx 9:1, begging for twins
6L80E - will get built up before much, if any, boost is applied
LT1 Camaro rad w/LS1 fans
Battery w/Ford solenoid and kill switch in trunk

need to get:
Engine/trans harness
2800-3000 TC
a crap-ton of relays
redoing the stock engine bay harness
Ridetech front musclebar
Hotchkis 2" springs most likely
front drive accessories, either VA or Wegner
VA AC
additional frame bracing
maybe power windows, we'll see
TigerCage?
Smoothed firewall
New wheels/tires

And after I climb out of debt from all that I can start on the body/paint and interior work. lol That's about it for now, I'll do my best to not go 7yrs between updates this time. Thanks for looking, James

Just so I dont get one of these: here's a pic from way back when:

Thanks, you too. I should be getting the shortblock back tomorrow then I can mock things up and see just how much trans tunnel surgery she'll need. I'm thinking a lot lol

I feel bad I only had my dash on the kitchen counter, wiring harness in the dining room, and seats, console, and door panels in the livingroom.
Good to see another Olds here.

I took my sweet time finishing up the motor but here she is in all her gold glory:

Improved Racing baffle just in case

Just need to pick up an LS1 dipstick and that will be that for the time being.

I actually laughed out loud at this! I thought you were just kidding when you said that, then i scrolled down to see the pic. Priceless!

I also like the way you painted the block in the Olds engine color, looks good.

I love your style! I am looking forward to more your build and more crazy pics.
I noticed you were thinking of going with Wegner accessories, Wegners are bar none the best fit and finish after market accessories out there! Check out my engine in my thread, Im sure Casey Wegner can make you a set of valve covers too for your Olds!

Hell, if I could pull all my car parts into the house and work on it there things would be so much more convenient. lol I did paint the engine in my spare bedroom though

Thanks for the compliments guys, trying to make her something to be really proud of.
LS2GS - I think you just sold me on Wegner. Loved the belt wrap but didnt think there would be enough room with the PS pulley down low to not hit the PS box. Looks like it tucks in nicely though.
