Default Talk me out of / into over sizing the rear tires

Im getting new rims on a 1978 Camaro Z28..
1978 stock Z28 is 7"x15" rim.

I was THINKING about going with 9.5"x18" on the rear and keep 7"x15" up front.
People are telling me there is no performance need, it just makes the rear end wander, putting smaller diameter on the front makes the car lag (like a dump truck pushing a load..) etc...

So someone make an argument for going bigger and wider on the rear! (I mean that in the dirtiest way possible)

A wider tire on the rear is usually a good thing, a bigger diameter wheel is only good for better handling. If you put a 18" wheel on the back it would look and handle much better if you put one on the front also regardless of the width of the front wheel.

Also, do you want that big of a difference in diameter going from front to back? Perhaps 15-17 would be better suited (and cheaper to find tires.)

Would look pretty trailer park IMO. Why not a nice 18x10 rear and 18x9 front? Or 15x10 rears and 15x4 fronts for a nice old school big and littles look?

looks wise thats way too much of a stagger.

Handling wise the rear will stick a lot better than the front and it will understeer horribly.
