Default zz3 a4 questions

Hey guys, im new to being a member here. Just joined tonight. I want to break into the 7s in the 1/8th..i have a 94z a4 with lts custom y pipe 3" into a cutout, accel 30# injs, cai, zz3 cam, ported heads, lt4 springs, electric wp, 323s, shift kit in tranny, stock tc..i run consistent 8.54-8.56 at 86mph..the cam was a bad choice im sure, but the guy that did my head work had it and said hes seen sbc run that cam and make 460 fwhp. ??? Its a pain to swap cams so is there anyway here in reality to break into the 7s by adding to my setup..if so ideas are welcome. Thanks guys. Btw before h &c i ran 8.8 all n dr. Tuning by me via tunercats.

Welcome to the forums!

a stall converter, 3.73/4.10 gears maybe deeper, suspension upgrades, tires you can hook on, weight reduction, nitrous ... you possibly could get into the 7's depending on how much nitrous and weight reduction you wanna do

That cam is not holding you back at all.
7.90's 1/8 is only 12.6 1/4. A stock cam would get you there if the rest of the car is working right, and the ZZ3 is a helluva lot better than stock.
You NEED a decent torque converter!!

I manage 8.1's with the stock cam and also agree with Pat. A Yank SS 3600 does wonders for the lt1.

I had that cam in my Caprice with 2.93 gears and 16-1800 stall and stock manifolds, ran a best of like 14.9 once. Keep in mind Caprice, well optioned. A 2800 stall Edge converter make it run consistent 14.2 on street tires, 3.42s got it to 13.9 and midlength headers, slicks and good weather were good for 13.2 and then I changed everything before I could go racing again. That was with a crappy tuner and 28x10.50 ET Drags that were all wrong for the setup, a good tune, some tweaking and a 26in tire and 12s would have been easy with a car that was easily 4300lbs even with the very mild 2800stall and 3.42s.

Granted the ZZ3 cam is not modern or something I would have recommended but it is capable of a lot more than you are getting from it. The FWHP number is not that big especially if it was a "happy" dyno, one "reputable" LT1 crate engine vendor sells 440hp strokers that put 330 to the wheel and run slower than heads/cam cars.

I would have RUN if a guy I was asking to port LT1 heads told me to do a ZZ3 cam in this day and age though...............

Having run one and not regretting it I MIGHT run one these days if the heads were 100% stock and I got the cam from free and had the engine apart for something else. I ran that cam something like 10 years ago when I was putting over 20K miles a year on the car. Cams and springs have come a long ways, as have heads, and I put it in to replace a smaller b-body cam not the larger f-body cam.

I think you can get to the high 7's with the 3.42 rear you are planning and a convertor change alone. 86mph shows that you are making enough power to get there regardless of what combo of parts you have. All you have to do (typed like it's an easy thing...lol) is work on your short time to get your 60' down to 1.80 or less and you'll be there.
