Default 4L60 newb questions/concerns

Hi all,
I have a A4 98 trans am w/ 95k miles. Has been bone stock until now which is only sporting a lid atm. I'm planning on doing a 3200-3600 stall, gears, muffler, and tune. My questions are:

1.3200-3600 okay for a dd?
2. Will the trans be okay with bigger stall?
3. Anything else I should do to the trans? Shift kit, deep pan, etc
4. Is it a good idea to drain pan and put new fluid/filter? Any specific fluid or filter?
I plan on a trans cooler obviously

Wrong section but will a 10bolt hold up to stock power+stall? Lol anything to prevent? Weld tubes, girdle, etc

1. Short answer is Yes. See these recent threads:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic...converter.html
https://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic...good-yank.html

2. Yes, the higher stall should not affect the trans much as long as you add a good cooler.

3. A Transgo HD2 or Sonnax Performance kit are highly recommended as they will likely extend the longevity of the trans. At the minimum install a .500 boost valve which is trivial to install with only the pan off. I run a trunk-sized pan which provides an extra valuable quart of capacity.

4. Someone else will have to answer whether the fluid should be changed or not. Dexron VI may be a bit better, but 2x as expensive and probably not worth it. The GM sold filters are made in Mexico, cheaper ones in China. Not sure if there is any difference.

I have an older car with 10-Bolt which I had welded; have an Eaton posi, Moser axles and a bearing-reinforcing cover.

at stock power level the only thing would worry about is the axles and the posi/locker if equipped. Both should live if you drive it right.

Welding the tubes is a good idea, I have seen more than one ten bolt pinion pointing at the sky because of twisted tubes. With stock power you are ok though.

A ten bolt is quite strong when done correctly. I ran 9.30's before I started ripping the teeth off of the ring gear.

It has 33 spline moser axles, moser spool, 9inch housing ends, moser-t/a girdle cover. When it broke the ring gear it had so much load on it it also bent the stock axle tubes when it came off the transbrake. Stock tubes are only 3/16" thick so that wasnt a big surprise and the gears were 5:13s so the amount of tooth contact was pretty minimal due to having such a small pinion.

Needless to say it was pretty cool carnage and one hell of a ride as I finished the run with 3 teeth on the ring gear broken and a bent axle tube.

The car needed more gear anyhow as it was on the limiter at about 1000 ft anyway. It now has 3/8 axle tubes and 4:56 gears and has been good ever since.
