Default Issues with keeping spring centered qa1 + tubular a arm

I have a set of qa1 aluminum body single adjustable coil overs, and I believe umi tubular a arms, the issue is the upper a arm only has a provision (small hole for the shock stud to go thru) for the threaded end of the shock to pass, there is nothing there to help center the spring... And it allows the spring to walk across the surface of the a arm... What are my options, I mean I can fab and weld an insert to the a arm that can sit inside the spring allowing it to center it self but what does everyone else do...

The Upper A-Arms don't mount the shocks or springs at all. There's the plate that the A-Arms bolt to, which in turn the upper shock/spring perch clamps to the car. It sounds like you have a piece or two missing in the assembly.

Post up some photos.
