Default Should I Clear coat over everything after polishing?

I'm new to polishing stuff. I read a post and people said that you should clear coat over whatever your polishing so it doesn't rust. Should I? I'm doing the valve covers and fuel rail right now but I'll probably do just about everything that can be done.
Thanks in advance

I think it would keep the polishing job look good for a longer period of time. I did my calipers about 6 months ago and it looks like I just did em yesterday once I wipe all of the dirt an grime off. Of course, they are aluminum......for other mnetals that may rust, I say go for it.

Back when I was just polishing the aluminum parts I would then have them clear powdercoated so there would be no maintenance involved to keep them looking nice.

Lately I have been having them all chromed after polishing. The polishing step is the most labor intensive/$$ part of the chroming procedure - to go the xtra step and then have them chromed is very little additional $$ - and frankly, when you look at a polished piece beside a chromed piece - the difference is very noticeable (chrome looks much better).

If you're polishing yourself I would go with either the clear PC or spray them with clear yourself. The Zoop Seal is a good product also but is not cheap and they state that the finish will only last 2 years before having to redo.

Ive found that clearcoating the polished peices dulls the finish and really makes a nice polished peice not look as good. If you want them Zoop Sealed send them to me and Ill do them for $50, just an idea if you didnt want to buy the package.
Take care

i agree with Doc. i clearcoated my fuel rails after polishing them and it really took away from the shine..don't like it at all compared to how it was before clearcoating.

how much does it typically cost to chrome dip a part if you do the smoothing and polish work beforehand?

Just as an example: The guy that does my chroming originally polished my Power Steering Cooler - I later decided to have all the polished parts chromed - he charged me only $25 additional to chrome the cooler that he had previously polished (I had not installed it yet).

Now I do a lot of business with him between my TA's and the Vette so he probably cuts me a break in price somewhat - but that should give ya an idea.

Thanks for the response. I'll talk to my buddy and see how much he would want to chrome the fuel rail and some other stuff.
Thanks again
