Default LT1 Radiator Fan

So my girl bought a 93' Z28 and the idiot decided to chop the fan conectors, so far i have had the whole front end off *changing water pump and distro* and those bloody wires are not findable! i have wired up many switches but with in a matter of hours the wires begin to smoke or i blow the inline fuse, or even better i blow the whole switch it self. the two fans are wired together grounded together. is this the issue? i can get back in there eventually to rewire it but i need some advise, tips, and tricks for this, her car has over heated once before and i had to replace both head gaskets.. i really dont want to do that again xD
