Default Stock Crank or Forged

Well my crank can't be salvaged due to some spun rod bearings. The question is, do i spend a couple hundred on a used stock crank and have it machined or (Machine shop said they can get me a stock crank and have it turned for a total of $300-$400 ) or do i spring for a forged stock stroke crank for around $800. LS1 block, Eventually going with AFR heads for the ability to push 25psi but itll have 317s for now. the rest of the drive train will be good for what ever i want to throw at it (jakes 4l80 and fab 9") the weak links are currently a stock crank and an LS1 block. Can the block even take more than a stock crank can?

Contact Denmah on here. He must have 5 stock crankshafts laying around for an affordable price.

If you are making under 1000rwhp stick with a stock crank. There have not been many failures at all with them.

I made 1063 through an auto with the stock block and crank.

If you want to make 1000+ and have it live for a while then you need a better block and crank IMO

Call Callie's, ask them if they have a 3.825 forged crank on the shelf that just needs finishing.
They have them.
They cost $660.00 + shipping

I called a few months ago and they had it shipped out the door in 6 days.

In my research......you're not gonna make 25psi, or at least not reliably and multiple times, with a 4 bolt block and heads. So.........

.

I'll more than likely run 20ish unless I'm close to a number that I want to hit but I don't want the crank to limit me.

What psi, cubic inches and compression to make the 1,063.........was it RWHP OR FWHP.....?

Wow......I'm glad I asked. I'm also going higher than normal on the compression and also using full time E85. Heavy tranny too (4L80E).

I'll be at 10.3:1 cr.

Were you using a 4 bolt per cylinder set up?
What heads and gaskets?
What kind of head studs?

I'm planning to shoot for 18psi with twins.......hope I break the 1,000 RWHP mark through my 4L80E.

I think that ill stick with a stock crank if i can find one. it seems like the crank and the block have the about the same limits. Not really shooting for 1k rwhp although it would be bad ***.

25lbs of boost out of what Turbo/Blower? Its going to be different for every combo. Keep the cylinder pressure and IATs low and let er' rip.

The stock crank won't limit you. I would how ever get a Iron 4.8/5.3L block and have it bored to 347 specs.

Smart move. The K1 Technologies cranks look good to the naked eye, might want to check them out.

It'll be an S478 and i would go iron but the machine work has already been started. My budget actually increase a lot recently but i dont want to waste money on work that has already been started. hopefully the block will be stable to 800-900rwhp. pretty sure that ill be happy with that.

I was thinking more of a lifting heads/pushing water issue.......since its 4 bolts per cyl.....?

I'd love to 20-21 psi with the Modular Turbo twin kit I'm doing.......
