every hand held programmer I see they all say 99 till 2002 will they not work with a 98? I seen the Hypertech programmer 3 specifically for the 98 model but no other programmers that say 98. Am I stuck with only the one option or will the others work too since its the same engine

Nope you need a 98 only tuner. The PCM is different and exclusive in the 1998 f-body model.
