Thinking of going turbo.....Need some Input
My Trans Am setup is H/C/I LS1, MWC 9in, FLT Lvl 5 4L60, FTI 3800 converter and Nitrous Outlet Plate kit. With this setup I went 10.50 on a small shot. I am looking for more power. So I have been looking at Huron Speed's turbo kit. I am thinking of doing a AES 370 iron block with the billet 78/79 comp turbo. Haven't figured out the heads yet. I am wondering if anyone has a similar setup or any suggestions. I am wanting 600+ to the wheels, I think it should be easy to get that, but would like some input. I know I will need goods heads and a good cam choice. Thanks

Put the kit on what you got. Youll make way more than 600 whp. You can always turn the boost down so you dont blow your trans. You'll likely need more fuel system depending on what you got. Throw some katec rod bolts on it. Maybe ls9 gaskets and arp's and let it eat. I went all forged with ported heads intake blah blah blah with my first truck I feel like it was a waist of money cause guys are making a lot of power without doing everything i did. And you can far exceed your goal. Good luck.
I have thought about that but my compression is 11:1, and I wouldnt be able too run much boost at all. I would rather do it right the first time

Too respond to both post, I really am just interested in doing the 370 build because I want the car to be reliable, but would like input from someone with a similar setup. As far as the trans go the car has already been low 1.5 sixty with driver tire in the air. But I know I might not last long. It is mostly a streetcar only raced a few times a year

With the 370 cubes, you will be fine and really enjoy the kit! We can get a Comp 7879 set-up perfectly for your needs and it would break 600 to the tire without a sweat! I would pick out some heads that will net your final CR to the 9.5:1 range. If you are planning on over 750 rwhp, an aftermarket casting with a thick deck is always nice to have! For the cam, Martin @ Tick can get something for you that will do exactly what you want!
Any other questions feel free to ask, you can always PM me as well! The 370 with a Comp 7879 would be a very stout combo!

A very stout and very reliable combo is what I am looking. I still got a bunch of stuff to figure out as are as head's and camshaft selection. I just want to go turbo so I can have the power anytime I want it, unlike the nitrous setup. I also want the capability to get to 750 or so to the wheels. So I need a setup that won't limit me, I might not ever push it that far but you never know. I am by no means saying that the Huron kit won't go there, really just asking and wondering if anyone has pushed it to the 700 mark. The Huron Speed turbo kit is most likely what I am going to buy. Just trying to do a little research before hand

We also have a junkyard 5.3l customer at 640, and a LQ9 customer at 660 both with baby turbos!

Well this kit sounds like what I am looking for, I just need to pull the trigger and start gathering parts. For a late summer/fall build, that way I can gather the right parts for what I want. Don't want to rush into this, I want this to be one nasty streetcar that will run with most anything I will see on the street. Then still be able to get to the strip and lay down some impressive times. So I want it right the first time, I like to do it once and do it right. Thanks for the input

Just wondering but is the comp 78/79 a proven turbo at all on a 370? I had multiple threads on 2 comp 80/79 turbos that did not work well at all on my 370. have others seens success because i Keep seeing new guys in the fi game saying they want that turbo. This is not a bash i actually run a comp 88mm now and like it.
Just wondering if any one has actually used a 78/79 on a 370 yet, have you measured bp? When does power fall off? Mine was out of steam at 5100rpm with 2.5:1 bp. The first 80/79 they sent had 4:1 bp. I think that one was bad though

Not bashing Comp but personally I'd feel more comofortable with a something like a S480/96.
ArchEnemy, Huron Speed sells a Truck Manifold turbo kit, there are only a few ways to do it and people have pushed truck manifolds into the 7s before, I would feel perfectly fine with a 750hp goal with Jon in the mix

This is why I started this thread too see what everyone thinks, not to bash anybody's products. I just want to make sure I get the right system for what I want to do with my car. I can't afford to buy turbo after turbo trying to get things right

Ok so what about the pt4788, will it fit on the kit and function properly or will it be limited by the downpipe. I really am wanting to do a 370 build with room to grow, but want limited modification to my car

It will fit on the crossover but will require a custom downpipe off of it. Also will require you to either slide your radiator forward or stand one up in the core support. Can be done through! We also do have a t6 kit where you could run about anything you like! PM for details on that if interested!

If you don't want to buy a turbo for a while go bigger. I'm running comp 88mm comp,94/88 turbine with 4inch. Its just about the same size as a pt 88. 835whp locked auto through 9 inch on 19.5psi. That's also with loosing 5psi through my cheap ebay ic so it had pleanty left. It had about 1.5:1 bp like that. the turbo is not as big as you would think. I replaced my comp 80/79 with it and did nothing other than a bigger dp
