Default 5.3 to 6.0 Swap in 04 Avalanche, Need guideance...

Looking into a 6.0 swap in my 04 Avy - What year engine am I looking for? Something about a reluctor wheel change??? Will my stock ECM work or can I "plug in" a 6.0 ECM? Will my harness work? What all needs to be swapped? do I use the 6.0 intake?

Looking to make this as painless as possible and looking to get all set up before one wrench is turned.

Thx.

I would stick with mid-'07 and older engines. They will be 24x and your '04 PCM will work with the engine just fine. You will need to reflash the PCM for the 6.0. From a wiring perspective, all connections should be the same between the 2 engines.

could you just use the PCM out of the donor truck rather than get it reflashed?

yea you can and just have a tuner remove the anti-theft off of it but then the pcm that came off of the donor truck probably came with a 4l80e transmission and ur avy is a 4l60e so you will have to get the donor computer tuned to run your 4l60e also

We can set you up with a 6.0 long block that will be a direct replacement with a great warranty. This will eliminate the concern of getting the correct gen block, correct crank and cam reluctor, trying to figure out if you need first or second design ect. Our 6.0 long blocks will start at $2639 and are actually built as 370CI motors. Give us a call with any questions, we are here to help make transitions such as yours as simple as possible.

Have a few more questions.

Is the flywheel the same on both engines?

Would a 4L80 fit in a 1/2 ton 2WD?

Any way to visually tell a 6.0 from a 5.3 or 4.8?

So even if i had the 6.0 ECM I would need a re-flash to use it, Correct? Why would the vin matter?

So I take it 07 & newer had a different reluctor wheel?

Thanks for everything.

The 6.0 has 6.0 stamped on the block.Just have your pcm tuned for the 6.0.

the simplest thing to do in this case is to have your pcm tuned to run the 6.0 and the 6.0 has a different flywheel so you have to use your old one and they are stamped behind the alternator and PS bracket right under the head on the block

VIN MAY matter depending on your state's emissions/inspection requirements. If you dont have any emissions/inspection requirements then as the others have said you can tune your PCM for a 6.0 and call it a day.

Regarding the size of the engine..... It is cast into the back of the block.

not really u will have to take the accessory bracket off or drop the trans. but u can just see if the 8th digit on the VIN is "U" or "N" and itll be a 6.0 LQ4 or LQ9
