Default 377 ci LT1 spitting, sputtering. just hit 1500 miles.

Rebuilt/refreshed LT1, 1500 miles, mostly all new parts. So the car started doing this right after 1500 miles, so first thing was first to check the plugs. Pulled them and they were all black and looked pretty burned, buddy that helped me build this engine suggested to run a colder spark plug. Did that, then it became intermittent, when the SES light comes on, the skip and accel bogging goes away. Car now starts to surge a little lower than comfortable now, PCMforLess set it @900, now it sits around 500-600 so I have to double foot it at a light. Entire ignition system is Accel ICM, BWD opti cap and rotor, Taylor 8mm wires.

check the opti cap again, as well as the coil. you aren't getting spark, or entirely too much fuel.

Hoping that word would stay away lol. I'll check it tomorrow to check the connections, just open to any and all ideas at the moment.

Try a stock icm and space it from the head. Look for arcing plug wires.

Dave here's another thing, forgot to mention this, it won't sputter unless its moving, just sitting there idling, it fails to recreate the issue. Once its in park, idle and such are fine. But I will try that as well.

Yes it is only happening "under a load" . Its common if there is a grimlin that it will show up then. Check
1. Icm, change to stock and space it from the head
2. Use a stock coil
3. Check for burnt or arcing wires swap wires and see if it goes away
4. Try datalogging ur car and see if its throwing any codes

Stock electronics work fine on most applications.

+1 times eleventy billion.

Accel is the bastard child of aftermarket ignitions for LT1s. NOTHING they make is any good.

I agree with quik95. I would start by replacing every Accell component with its OEM counterpart. Summit has a clearance sale running on Chevrolet Performance optisparks. I bought one of them and it appears to be OEM.

I'll order a Chevy Performance opti, and AC-Delco ignition coil, will update as soon as I get them and install them, should I swap out the wires too? I was actually leaning to the cheap opti-cap/rotor actually, its just a pain to get parts locally when A) Nobody carries them, B) Gives you wrong parts, C) Never heard of an LT1 so they just stare at you with their thumbs in their butts. I just get leery when I hear parts companies like BWD and such. I've definitely learned my lesson. Thanks all, updates soon.

Here is a thread about the opti sale.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/lt1-lt4-m...-sale-out.html

What year is your car? Does it have an Accell opti? If so, I would replace it, but that may just be me. I don't have any first hand experience with Accell stuff, but I've always heard it's junk. I'm sure opinions will vary. I actually have a Crane coil on my car, but I haven't really driven it since it was installed. I got an aftermarket coil because I heard the OEM coils on the early model LT1 Camaros were weaker than the coil they put on the later models.

Its a 94, the opti is the OEM one just with a BWD cap and rotor. Accel ignition coil on the other hand.

If it's an OEM opti, I would replace the cheaper stuff first and see what happens. Summit is still showing 76 of those unvented optis available. They might be in stock for awhile. My factory opti lasted for over 100K. I put my car into storage in October of 2000 and I know the water pump had been leaking on it. When I got my car out of storage several years later, the opti was in pretty bad shape.

I suppose on to the coil then, you mentioned you have a Crane coil on yours, but it hasn't been driven. Is there anything out there you think I could pick up locally? All I have that the sites bring up locally are BWD, Duralast, and Valucraft. Special orders are of course, Ac Delco, Delphi, and Richporter. Any suggestions as to whom to go with?

Suggestions on a company's coil? If not I'm ordering an AC Delco tonight, started doing it worse on the way home today. Drove maybe 5 minutes with everything cleared up and the drive was fine, hitching a ride the g/f tomorrow, I can't keep driving it like this...this sh*ts annoying.

You should check out shbox.com for places to get OEM parts at reasonable prices. If I had it to do over, I might get a stock coil myself, and I may again when I actually get around to driving my car again.

If you have an Accell ICM, I would certainly consider changing that to OEM.
