Default Idle clacking sound

Hey what's going on, my 1999 corvette is making a weird clacking sound when ever I'm at idle. The car has a little over 37,000 miles. As soon as I start to drive the sound stops. Sort of sounds like it has a cam. I'm going to take it to a mechanic Monday but I want to know some things that can be wrong with it.

Thanks!

When I get home I'll upload a video of the sound through YouTube and post the link here.

It could be normal, but I've heard other corvettes at idle and they don't sound like that. It has LT headers and full exhaust if that has anything to do with it.

My camaro does it. It even did it before that build. Sometimes its worse and sometimes I cant hear it. I wouldnt worry to much about it unless it starts to really sound bad.

Yeah that's how it is with mine. Sometimes it's hard to hear and other times I can hear it loud and clear.

Sounds perfect.....what do you want it to sound like? You have some piston noise, loose pistons=a little noisy but QUICK. You should hear my 01 WS6 with 37k on it, sounds ALOt louder than yours but runs crazy strong.

The LTs are exactly what's making that ticking noise louder...the valvetrain noise resonates down through the larger pipes.

I had that with my brand new 427ci when it went in with my 1 7/8" LTs. It's the first thing I asked about after driving it away from the shop. After a couple weeks it just became a none issue. It was like I got used to it but it never bothered me again, it was like it stopped.

So I figured out what the clicking sound was. I had a misfire and my spark plug wire literally snapped in half and was arching off my headers. Plus a little piston slap

Sometimes its not that that big of a deal. Good job knowing how it sounds/changes in your car. I would say a close noise would also just be a manifold tick.
