Question T-56 Magnum Vendor Questions

Thanks for the great website. Been browsing a while and here is my first question. Getting ready to put a T56 in a 69 camaro. Going with the aftermarket installation kit and trans. Can someone tell me the difference in D & D Performance, Hurst Driveline, Keisler, and American Powertrain vendors. If they all sell the Tremec T56 Magnum, where does the comparison come in to play. Is it customer service, crossmembers, installation instructions, etc? Thanks for any info.

From what I've been told, the tranny is the same price, per MSRP from Tremec, no matter where you buy. The savings comes from the kits they sell that includes clutch, yoke, T/O bearing, etc. Hurst Driveline and D & D are excellent vendors. I've heard things about Keisler and American Powertrain. My personal recommendation would be Hurst Driveline. They have excellent customer support from start to finish.

You should be good with any TREMEC dealer...BTW Kielser is not a TREMEC dealer.

Also, you will see a huge price difference, depending on the tailhousing/shifter location. As the Magnum comes, it has a reversible shifter mounted at the front of the tailhousing. This trans is around $2895 in stock form. Some vendors, such as us, will go in and do a few upgrades, then the price goes up. There really isn't much that can be upgraded, though. All we can really do it upgrade all 8 shift fork pads to billet, and use the newer friction rings for 1/2 & 3/4. This is about $550 in parts, plus 300 labor. This adds 850 to the price, even though some vendors charge $4500-5000.
Now if you require the 98-02 f-body shifter location, the trans will have to be converted to an f-body/SSR tailhousing, which is quite expensive. This will add another 500 or so, as the shift rail, tailhousing, and yoke will have to be added.
This is the trans that we actually have in stock right now for $4200, which is really cheap for what you're getting.
So, first thing is to find out exactly which shifter location will work for you, then give us a call. We have Tremec Magnums is stock at all times.

I have a factory 4 speed with a console so I'm wanting one that fits in the factory shifter hole.

I just bought a T56 Magnum kit for my 69 Camaro from Hurst Driveline Conversions and they were great to deal with. I also ended up buying a hydraulic clutch kit from them. They have lots of experience and were very helpful answering all of my questions.
