Tell me about it, i had to change out my girls when her ball joint snapped at the threads. i had to do it all on the side of the highway, if you just rent the balljoint/ujoint press its a hell of alot easier. my local part store wants about 40 out the door.

Was this on a 4th gen f-body? I had no luck with the rented c-clamp style ball joint press.

Advance and Pepboys will loan you the tool, when you return it you get the money back.

The tool I rented from Autozone sucked, the adapters weren't the right sizes. I was able to get the old ones out, but the new ones would not go in straight. I paid a shop to press them in for me, well worth avoiding that hassle.

i have found it cheaper to buy upper and lower control arms. the time you would spend installing them and it takes a lot less time to just replace the whole unit and you get new bushings

I have never used Autozones, but i must say i bout broke my breaker bar to ensure that the ball joint was in and the tool didnt as much as flex, the addapters were very well sized, the only thing i wasnt happy about was the ball for the press in was a little tricky to keep in its place, the little metal ball ensures it goes in straight. havnt had any issues yet out of the install on the side of the road cant really complain about their tool.
