windage tray question for LY6 w/ corvette LS3 oil pan
My built motor (Gen IV iron block) came with an LS7 windage tray because it allowed the proper clearance for the 3.622 crank and aftermarket rods w/o having to use shims. The problem is that my LS3 pick up tube from my old motor does not bolt down to the new windage tray because the 'pocket' that existed on the LS3 windage tray is not present on the LS7 windage tray. The bracket that holds the pick up tube only seats about half way down the threads of the new windage tray before it has interference.
Should I replace the LS7 tray with a shimmed LS3 tray? Or should I slightly notch my oil pick up bracket so that it has clearance to sit flush on the LS7 windage tray w/o getting jammed against the sides around the nut?
