Default 3.8L 10 bolt the same as 5.7 10 bolt?

Hey I have a 2000 5.7 with 4 channel that needs a new rear. Only one I can find from a jy is a 3 channel with 3.42's from a 3.8L.

I know I can convert the 3 channel rear to 4 channel by using my parts from my rear but the jy is telling me that the 3.8 rear is a direct fit for the 5.7. Sounds probable but wanted to confirm with you guys.

Also did the 3.8L auto's have an option for the 3.42's??? I didn't realize they did thought most autos were 308's. If it's 3.42 then it should have the thin ring gear correct?(series 2 i think always mix them up). Also he says it has posi did the 3.8L's have the torsion rear in 99' like the 5.7's?

Thanks!

Any V6 with the option code Y87 came with either an M5 or A4 and 3.42's with posi.

I have one as my DD.

The housings are the same. The only difference is the carrier. Most V6's were open diffs.

V6/V8 makes no difference, they interchange, so just pop the top, confirm insides look good, count the teeth if you like to confirm 3.42, and posi, and buy the rear.
