Default Why arent S300s more popular

The bigger horsepower ricers say the S300 in 60mm are a direct comparison to the more costly GT3582, spooling about the same and same power. So why arent they more popular in twin setups on V8s? You can get them for $600 shipped and the BW reliablity on stock turbos is nice.

I wonder why they aren't more popular also, they "look" right to me. The exhaust housings selection is the only downside, I can think of.

I am switching to twin 366 on the wagon, now that the t61 Masterpowers are on the camaro we putting together.

I've recommended them to guys before that wanted a nice twin set-up. They're a very nice turbo.

I like the S366's personally.

I have always wondred as well. Those or twin s200 series for a smaller goal on a street car would work well! I have always had great results from Borgs on 4 bangers.

Jose at FI sells a lot of them and I think they are great turbos too. We have used them in twin configurations on small v8s and even a viper v10 that made 1200rwhp with 62mm wheels.

Have not seen for $600 but very close. I think there is a place called himini racing that sells them pretty darn cheap, but if you change the turbine housing there is a charge.

buyautoparts.com has a 15% code right now and they are normally $700 shipped from there so I figure they can be had for $600 other places too.

The cheap s256 come with 1.15a/r or something weird, so to get a good a/r for a two turbo setup on a v8, the cost goes way way up, I was thinking two s256 turbos on a 5.3 would be great until I realized that.

That s300s come with a decent a/r though for the cheap ones.

Around 730 is what I see them go for and for that price there is some nice Precision units available too.

After my experiences with both turbos on a variety of cars I have tuned, I would go with the Borg Warners every time.

You must be new here...... (joking)

Every person I know that has ran Precision turbos ended up blowing them up after very few miles. Some luck out and never have issues, but the amount of people that blow them up is insane... just do a search on here.

For what it's worth, Turbonetics TC turbos are very similar in price range (600ish shipped), and can be had with billet compressor wheels for not much extra. Just bought a set from Jon @ Huron Speed, very cool guy and has the cheapest prices I could find.

No hate on BW turbos though... they are very good turbos as well for the price.

I ran a S256 on a car compared to the smaller Garret GT3082R it still spooled up quicker and made more power on that little 4 banger. 400hp/400tq at the wheels on an otherwise stock motor through an AWD transmission on a 2.5 liter 4 banger is pretty decent. The crazy thing I noticed is it really didn't "come alive" until after about 18 psi. When the turbos started to get in the sweet spot in the compressor efficiency it really took off and made some good hp. Twin S256 turbos at around 20 psi would be sick! The Borg Warner stuff has always impressed me.
