If that's all you have to spend you aren't even close to being ready for a cam swap.
CAI $200
Headers $400
Full exhaust $400
3600 stall $600
Gears $500
Mail-order tune $150
IMO that's a bare bones list that doesn't even include upgrading the suspension. Once you get that far you might be ready to consider installing a cam. All of those mods should get you 300+whp. Either that or add a 150-shot and you'll enjoy 370-400HP all day.

No benefit using over 1/2" lift in stock LT1 head.
Or maybe someone can bust my bubble here and show me a stock LT1 head that flows higher at >1/2" lift. Ahhh, it felt great to get this off my chest because i keep looking at the stock flow numbers expecting there's something more there but there ain't. Ever hear the saying sometimes installing 1.6 rockers make less power - i think i can understand why now.
Hope i save u some $$ and effort,

It sucks that you already ordered the hotcam kit before consulting these guys lol. I've learned a lot from ls1tech in the past year. What brand longtubes did you buy? But like these guys said, if it were me, I would get full bolt ons first before buying a cam. You could send the hotcam kit back. A stall converter is a must with an auto. Gears I would say are equally important when it comes to a larger cam. Especially if you want to make more power than that cam offers (who doesnt?) And then when the time comes, you could get a larger cam than the hotcam that will tie everything you have together (including a good tune of course)

I'd do the headers at least for now. Don't do the cam until you have the money to get it tuned. You could probably get away with it, but the car would most likely be miserable to drive. If you can do an off road y-pipe, do that as well. You'll see a huge gain with those two things.
