stock LY6 longblock mild build, re-gap rings and head studs or leave alone?
i have a 2009 LY6 with 60k miles on it. building a mild turbo setup for it and am curious if i should bother taking the heads off, gapping the rings and doing head studs.
i will only be running 8-10lbs of boost. it has a LS3 intake and will get a custom cam. turbo is a s475, normal stuff. just shooting for 550-600hp on pump gas.
so leave it alone, or break it down?
thanks

I always do rod bolts and re-gap. But if I was going to do only one, the re-gapping is needed first. Its needed less on a high mile engine, but on low miles I've seen what happens when you dont re-gap first hand. (ring land popped and also cracked the cylinder wall too)
Good luck.
Good luck.

ive ran about 18psi on my 2008 4.8 with about 10k miles on the motor. the motor is pretty much new. no problems here. i left everything alone on the motor. just changed the valve springs/pushrods/cam and gave it hell, this is on e85 though. keep the timing low and itll live.

IMO As was mentioned I do not mess with the ring gap on high mileage engines. I would at the very least pull one piston and check the gap. If it was less than .024 I would re gap to .028. If it is already .022 I would just leave them alone and throw on a set of LS9 gaskets and be done with it. At the very least I would check one though.
