m6 10 bolt with 4:10 on street tires? Ok I kno everyone is gonna have an opinion but my question is will I be fine running 4:10 on the stock 10 bolt with 150K miles. Also what would be the best way about doing this ,like what else should I freshen up while I'm there to help the length of the rear? New axles ,seals ? Any help appreciated

If you're doing the gears yourself you could put in new bearings with a rebuild kit as well as new seals all the way around. It will last fine as long as you keep the street tires on it and don't pop the clutch all the time. Shock to the driveline is what kills weak components. If you go to the track then of course your chances of breaking it are far greater. If you have an aggressive clutch that too will be a contributing factor to a shorter lifespan.

Ok I was still debating on which gears I should go with either 373 or 410. I will be spinning the tires sometimes but on street tires so I don't want to break anything. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Right now my mods are cc502 K&n cia and flowmaster cat back. I bout the car with a dyno sheet 300whp & 325lbs tq. What do u think the kit+spacer+studs and cover is gonna cost? I kno gears are 200 and a buddy mechanic of mine is doing it for close to nothing. Just need to kno what the rest would run me.

Hands down by far the best mod for an M6 is these gears. Only downfall is most gearsets have the whine. I heard of a couple good results with cheap Jegs gearsets. Currently running Richmonds and they are loud and annoying. Who else is running these gears and doesnt have whine... which gears are you using?

To the OP, with 150k on that rear you should budget for a new posi unit, now your up to $900 bucks in parts only.

I'm gonna go with motive 4.10 & speed_demon had said about a solid pinion spacer. What's that about? Do I need it or can I just get the master install kit?

The only set I've had noise with is with the stock 3.73 GM's in my pickup after I replaced the posi MYSELF. The whine is from the installer, not the gear brand

I have to disagree with "most gearsets have the whine". 95 times out of 100, the whine is from a faulty installation. I've run stock GM, Motives, and several Richmonds sets all the way to a 4.88 ratio. I have a guy who knows how to install them and they've all been factory-quiet.

so will i be ok without a new posi unit? i mean thats really a grand in i mine as well just save for a twelve bolt but that will be atlest a year an i cant wait that long. what does everyone else think?

ok i think i will just get it apart and replace all the seals and bearings and put in the 4.10 gears and just take it easy untill i kno i can afford a 12 bolt. im only looking to spend aorund 500 so i hope i can get it done.

O.P. I would consider a 390 gear set its alittle stronger than the 410 and first gear will have a more of a usefull range .As far as noise goes the guy who done mine has been doing rearend work for 35 years and it shows .theres no sound difference after the install from my O.E. set.

ok thanks for the advice i think the 3.90 would be a good choice. i will make sure before i leave the shop it has no whine cause in my opinion there should be no noises at all after any gear install.
