Default 01 M6 average life expectancy.

What is the average mileage that these transmissions need to have wear parts replaced synchros' bearings shift forks etc as a preventative rebuild.

So far the tranny shifts stone perfect and is quiet but I also know at the same time there is a point at which mileage wise it's time to do a PM rebuild to save expensive headaches in the future.

This is a sanely drive non beat on trans but is creeping north of 140 on the odometer.

Sometimes they crap out at 80k miles, just depends on the driving style/track days.

I have yet to see a BONE stock T56 last that long though. You sure it's never been rebuild. As for when you should do it, drive the darn thing until it breaks. The first thing that will usually go is the synchros, the minute a gear starts grinding just rebuild it if it makes you feel better.

233,000 miles on my full bolt on cars t56 (main car in my sig) , doesnt want to shift quickly at full rpm's anymore but other than that keeps going , did get a clutch replacement around 215,000.

previous owner had owned it since 80k and it is still stock internals in engine , tran, and 10 bolt , highway miles are real easy on cars though and 233k on a 13 year old car its mostly highway

This is a question that begs the question(s) : how its driven ,whats the use and who's the driver.
No, its not crazy to see bone stock units exceeding 100k miles.

Have a 99 Formula used as a daily driver with ~ 210,000 miles;
aside from replacing the clutch @ 150,000 miles, and fluid changes
there have been no issues.

This is a pretty strong transmission, how long it lives depends on how it is driven.

owner previous to me went 11.9's with it before it started shifting hard - I was there when he did it and thought it was a cammed car , couldnt believe it was stock internals with over 200k , ended up with the car about a year later....its nice enough it gets put up for winters now....230k garage queen lol

its all how its cared for and what type of daily use it sees , miles is a small part of condition

It all depends on the driver really.mis shifting and shifting into gears too early put a lot of wear and tear on this trans, which also takes miles off of its life. Mileage will very on every different application. First sign of an issue or if your bored,I would look into upgrading.

128k Abusive miles here and still running strong it's outlasted 4 clucthes. I think the tick master and a new slave around 60k helped it live. I really think its how good you work the stick..... no homo

My T56 has 185K on the clock. 2nd gear doesnt shift at high RPM's and sometimes 2nd and 4th gear grind, but it is still drivable...

I've had it explained to me that a good rule of thumb is the take into consideration the skill/maturity level of the drivers, current and past. There are always going to be exceptions, but a car driven by a teen or bad driver will have parts fail or wear out more frequently. With this in mind, and looking at a car which you know zero history on, it is probably reasonable to expect a longer lasting trans to come from a corvette than an F-body. Not too many teen boys have 'vettes :-)

I had around 300 1/4 mile passes on mine in various configurations pushing an average of 400RWHP. At 40K miles I had no issues.

Then I went to Germany and discovered the Autobahn. High speed driving + the Nurburgring killed it. Mine had 55K on it when it torched the 6th gear bearing. When the bearing "died" it sounded like a horrible belt squeak that would only go away when I put the car in reverse.

That said, had I NOT driven the car 100+ MPH to work every day..... it would probably still be fine.

im in the middle of getting my t56 rebuilt as we speak. made 460wheel/tq for the past 3 years, and its been boosted for 60k miles. the trans had 180k miles when pulled, and my trans guy says it looks perfect! but im going to be doing all new bearings/pads/keys etc
never had an issue with my trans. 7k rpm shifts every time i drive it
this is also with a tick master fwiw

Bought this car from a 68 year old doctor who purchased it new. Was stock down to the air box and gm air filter when I got it. It's got 140 on it and I'm building a built 6.0 for it but it's a driver only no track or autocross in it's future just a fun pull it out of the garage and cruise it on the weekend car.

Guess if it ain't broke don't fix it and when or if it starts giving signs I'll pull it out and rebuild it at that point. I am putting a new LS7 clutch, Gm master and Gm slave in it while the motors out the slave puked. Then I got a warranty 6.0 in the shop and then the cam bug hit and it's been on a downhill slide since then. I was trying to leave it alone and enjoy it stock but I just can't do it.

What defines a "high rpm shift issue" as some above have mentioned.

I would put a tick master cylinder in it if you have the extra money. But a high rpm issue could be discribed as having a hard time getting into gear at high rpm, or possibly grinding, or even the trans popping out of gear.

10-4 I swear that once or twice I made it scratch goin from 4th to 5th while getting into it pretty hard but I wasn't sure if I just didn't aim right during the shift or if it was a legit scratch.

on mine upshift to 2nd gear you gotta count one thousand one , one thousand two , one thousand three , and still about stand up to pull the shifter back into 2nd once you are up around 6k , 5k it shifts fine.

probably only an extra split second but it seems like forever to me lol
