Lookng at LS? for a 996 Porsche renegade Swap
Hey all, I'm new to this forum and new to the LS motors. Been wrenching all my life on just about everything else. I've just aquired a 2003 Porsche C4S with a bad motor and I'm in the process of a Renegade LS? swap.
I need your expert advise on the best LS bang for the buck. I'm thinking of a stock motor with at least 430hp, I know the LS3 vette motor will do this, but will the Cad, Camaro, or other cheaper LS's do the same, since most motors factory HP rating is maybe just a exhaust system change different?
Also is there any LS's models or years to Stay away from?
Thanks for any help and sugestions, Mike

You can do a LS1 and a LS2 swap but you will have to invest a little more money to get the HP you are asking for. If you want something close to 430hp straight from factory than just go with a LS3 its more than enough, and later on if you decide you can do full bolts on it. Such as headers, cam, ported heads, cold air intake, and a FAST LS3 intake manifold. Theres sponsors on here that sell LS3 crate engines for reasonable prices, or check in the classifieds for a parted out LS3 block or whole motor. You can also look in the Coversions section on this forum for better info, theres a couple of guys doing LS swaps on their Porsches.

agreed ^^^. the ls2 with a ls6 intake and a good cam mite get you 430hp.ported heads would allow for a mellow cam.if going with a new crate motor check SDPC . Texas Speed sells built ls motors.

Ls-1 with 440whp ready for you to take first week in March? Low hr engine. I can even put together a harness and ECU. ALL wheel drive p car with LS power. Stuff is in Texas
I think you will have a rig. P car stuff $$$$ heads cost more than the LS engine complete.
I have followed a few 996 to LS swaps( lurking) It is the way to go. Those 996 engines are junk they all go bad and are built like cheep sewing machines. don't try to fix them either. They come apart and never go back together. total throw away crap. Hard to believe its Porsche. Typically great cars but they got that engine wrong.

I was at Renegade HQ last weekend in Vegas. Classy operation. They just sold a C4S with an LS3 crate motor dumping into the stock 996 exhaust, and I'll be damned if it didn't sound like a Porsche at idle!
