Default Nissan S14 T70, 4.8, T56 build

I'm bored on a Friday night so I figured I'd make a build thread.

I bought this fairly clean 240SX this summer with a semi running RB25 swap. Originally I had just planned to fix up the RB25 and drive it around. Well it turned out the engine was junk. (see pics) But basically the crank turned into thrust bearings. So for a while I tried to find another long block to toss in, but I never really liked the idea of the RB25. Parts are expensive, the stock ECU is junk, so that means MS or Vems. I knew how awesome LS's were because I helped my buddy from Tanner Munson Drifting tinker on his LSx 240s and various other LS based nonsense hes had. My brother also swapped a 5.3 into his 85 Landcruiser.

So it was settled, I was going to get an LQ4 and a healthy cam and call it good. I bought a T56 off of here, and a bunch of parts from my friends LS part collection of the years and got to work. I quickly decided I wanted the challenge of building a turbo set up. So I opted for a 4.8L and MPT70 which I also purchased here.

Mind you this all began in the middle of summer. I havent actually worked on this since November due to the fact that its winter and all. But I'm hoping I can pick it back up soon and finish the hot pipes. Ideally I want to have this thing driving by spring. Though after losing my job at a local fab shop, that goal has become more difficult.

Anyway, enough words, here are the pics.

The RB25 that was in it when I bought it...

No longer in it

Not good...

Got the motor sitting pretty

The battery tray was junk due to a battery leaking on it. So I decided what the heck, I'll make a little tube chassis set up.

Turbo mocked up

Cold pipes

Headers. I'm not happy with how they welded up. I bought the cheap mandrel bends off the internet and the quality of the steel was pretty poor. I wish I had spent the extra coin and just gone stainless. But they'll do.

Also got some shoes for it. 17x9 front 17x10.5 rear Cobra replicas.

So thats basically how it sits now. I still need to fab up the hot pipes, freshen up the engine, fuel system and electronics. But most of the fun fab work is done. Once its running and driving for a while I'll deal with the body. I think I'll just get some over fenders for the rear which will cover the damage and get a new factory bumper cover. The over fenders will also allow me to run a wider tires than the 275 thats on the back now.

Thanks guys!

I thought about running truck manifolds, but I would of had to buy a set. That and I feel like there was another reason, maybe a clearance issue. But I cant remember. I also felt like building headers, since I hadnt before this car. The cold pipes were also my first real aluminum tig welding. I basically wanted to build this car to challenge my skills and demonstrate what I can do. At the time I was working at a fab shop and was trying to get more automotive fab through the door. But now that I got laid off (lack of work coming in) I'm hoping it'll help me start my own shop.

Nice looking build. Might want to order those fenders early, waited 18 months for my body parts to come in, drove around with no front denders and the 315/35/17 in the rear sticking out the rear fenders
