Default 79 trans am project

yesterday my dad and I bought a 1979 Pontiac trans am, ws6 w72 it has T-tops and a 4 speed transmission, no motor but it still has the 4 speed in it. we bought the car in Syracuse new York, we plan on restoring it to original stock condition. it will be a 400/4speed black on black with charcoal decals. ill keep uploading pictures and keep everyone updated as we begin the restoration. as for now were gona keep it out by our boat until it gets warmer and we have garage space.

yeah me and my dad are going to restore it, im sure with the help of family and friends, we have a neighbor who has a nice car collection so im sure he's going to help out too. and yeah theres quite a bit of work that's going to need to be done. the drivers side is more rusty then the passenger side. we already have some replacement panels and floor pans.

My buddy and I bought a 79 z/28 my junior year of high school... project is still going lol. Had the original motor and trans, bored it .060 over and made it a 388 stoker (hence the name) and did a T-56 swap. It eventually got too expensive for me so he owns it now. Hit me up if you have any specific questions on what we did. Its a lot of work but its definitely a great project. Best of luck!

Nice car- only the 4 speed cars got the Pontiac 400- much more desirable.

Why the charcoal decals?

I am re-building my wife's 79 right now. Started out dark blue w/ blue interior in ''03, then white with blue interior in '04, finally going black on black this year

Yeah were going to find a true 400 pontiac to put in it, and were doing charcoal because that's how the car came from the factory. Black on black with charcoal decals so that's how were gona restore it too. And that's sweet! I think black on black is the best combination personally.

Hey everyone, so I was just checkin out the build sheet and found some more out about the car, its special edition 79, black on black with charcoal decals, 4 speed/400 4 barrel, T-tops, air conditioning, 4 wheel disc brakes, deluxe interior, electric windows, it has a posi system in it also, w72 & ws6, gray snowflake wheels with a lip, rear defrost, tinted glass, and the custom mirror, I don't know if theres somewhere that could tell me exactly how many of these identical cars were built? or is this maybe the only one.. I guess well find out!

I don't remember charcoal decals on black cars- I have seen silver but I didn't know the factory did it.

Okay- that's what I was thinking. Mine is supposed to get sprayed today or tomorrow.

Check out the Products from 'restore a musclecar' - 17",18, 20" snowflakes and LED / HID lights.

Good luck on the project
