Default input shaft sleeve - good idea or bad idea?

I am looking for input from people that have experience with using a sleeve on the input shaft where it goes into the pilot bearing. I stupidly put the pilot bearing in backwards and now the surface of the input shaft is slightly grooved. Rock Auto sells a $22 sleeve as opposed to replacing the input shaft with a new one. I am having the trams rebuilt already but want to know if I would be wasting my time with a sleeve only to have to open it back up again and put a new input shaft in it...what are your thoughts?
