K1500 Help
Here's the deal.
I drive a K1500 daily, with a SBC 350 in it (TBI). It currently has Headman Headers, which are wrapped. I do search and recovery K-9 work with this truck, and drive a good hour plus most of the time.
I'm looking to get the best milage I possibly can, while still being able to pull trailers in the 5-7k lbs range. (I don't pull them all the time, just need to retain the ability to)
I'm looking into doing a heads and cam swap, as well as the FAST intake on my 2001 Camaro SS, so I will have the LS6 Intake and Heads/Cam sitting aside.
I also have another SBC 350 in pieces back home in MO. Both of my SBC's are 4 bolt main.
What would be my best route here? A 383 stroker kit, with upgraded intake/TBI, or swapping out to the LS1 heads and cam? Perhaps a Weiand 144/142 supercharger with an intercooler?
-My truck started ticking/knocking last night, and I haven't had time to find out what the problem is yet.
Also, is there any reason why a rotating assembly from an LS1 would not work in the SBC? I'm guessing those parts are the same as any other 350.
Thanks,
-Zombie

Please tell me you are joking....
Not only is this the wrong section, but the only parts interchangable between an LS and a roller SBC are the lifters..... The LS is a completely different engine.
None of what you said makes a bit of sense.

No parts from ls are interchangeable with gen 1 or 2 small blocks. Those tbi 350s have tons of torque and are reliable but performance wise and fuel economy wise they are boat anchors. Either do a complete 5.3 swap or just put in another junkyard long block. A 383 would be stupid because the tbi is basically a 2 barrel carb with only 2 injectors so it not only can't breathe, but it doesn't efficiently distribute fuel to all cylinders.

Thanks for being a useless jerk? At least the other guy explained it. Obviously if I knew that I wouldn't have posted it here, or the question at all. Perhaps I'm on the wrong forums, because every other thread I've read seems to be polite and professional. You just made this forum look like crap to me.

A 4.8, 5.3, or a 6.0 out of a 99+ chevy truck, van etc can be had for cheaper. I would go that route.

I had a 2006 Silverado with the 5.3 and hated it. I thought it was complete trash, but it may have just been poor luck. Any ideas where to grab a motor setup like that?

Back to my original idea, based on your lack of knowledge and experience, I'd just pick up a junkyard tbi short block for $200 and swap that in to fix your knock and do a lot more research for a build.
Quick, he has a tbi you have a vortec mpfi, your motor has potential, his does not.

FWIW I have a tbi 350 in my 2 door Tahoe, 3.73 gears 33s, throttle body spacer, big k&n filter, and no muffler in a 3" catback and it tows great. I had my car and a lot of tools and parts on a 2300lb uhaul trailer, so 6000lbs about and towed that 2 hours to Cecil and back no issue. Just put it in 3 so you don't burn up the trans in OD and it will hold 65 on the highway at around 3000 rpm all day long getting 9-10mpg. Before me when it was stock (still with 3.73s) my dad towed his 5000lb boat 14 hours each way to NC from ct in 100 degree heat every summer for 10 years and never had a problem. 150k on original engine and trans with synthetic fluids changed religiously. I had a 95 with 3.42s and 33s and the gear difference felt huge, towing the same boat it was not as happy.
