A good WOT pressure is 225psi. You generally will have to use a .490/.500 boost valve and matching pressure regulator spring to reach that. Also the tune should be set to the max "96" for high-throttle shifts.

If you haven't bought the Z-Pak yet, you might consider newer alternatives:

I also recommend drilling the 3rd feed hole a bit and checking the entire 3rd circuit for leaks.

If you do use the Z-Pak, I've read to aim for the recommended .050 clutch clearance and no less.

With the trans apart, also make sure you have at least the newer GM heat-treated Sunshell; it has blue tabs.
With a better 3-4 clutch and new Sunshell you have addresses the two weakest points. And a boost valve (or shift kit) will make it last longer.

If you are going to use the Z-Pak, then go with the modified one at https://www.700r4l60e.com/store/prod...&cat=58&page=1 This has 16 one sided clutches instead of the 14 in the standard Z-Pak. I made this change many years ago and this has worked out much better. I have over 150 of these modified Z-Paks out there in matched applications with no complaints. Call me if you have any questions.
