Default 97 Z28 LE2 H&C finally good to go!

Finally finished putting the LE2 heads on my car and wanted to share...

Motor was a rebuilt LT1, nothing special really... I swapped in LE2 cam (218/224) and heads now. some other things changed out... Poly bushings everywhere-all suspension, motor and tranny... 1.6 SA promag roller rockers, hardened chromoly pushrods, Ram clutch, pacesetter LT headers, TSP X-pipe 3" rumbler exhaust, K&N intake, Holly 52mm TB, LTCC ignition, no emissions crap anymore.... umm... UMAperformance stuff: k-member, LCAs and LCA relocation brackets, upper/lower panhard, tranny mount,..

Got a more noticable clickity clacking of valvetrain. I've asked two friends at work that are car guys and they say it doesn't sound bad but, it worries me a little.. With no radio on or anything its real noticable to me while driving at a constant RPM. This seem normal? I'm going to adjust valve lash again and hopefully it'll quiet down some.

Waiting on a tune. Called two local places but, one dude is out of town and the other spot is to busy to return phone calls,.. haha... Oh well,.. It'll happen soon enough I guess....

Now I need to save for paint! hahaa.. What y'all think?

Sweet build! Can't hear videos at work ill do it when I get home, but you shouldn't really hear your valvetrain, I'd pull your covers and take a look. My comp pro mags are silent.

Wow, thats one of the best sounding LT1s I've heard. Nice work!!!

If you don't mine me asking, how much did the LE2 swap end up costing from start to finish with gaskets/ all the trimmings?

What is your valve lash? Do you have adjustable guideplates?

Sounds great! I wouldn't worry about the valvetrain. Mine's been noisy as hell from day 1. Just check on them once in a while. Dyno tune any time soon?

Correct. You should not be making full throttle runs like that without a tune.

Definitely tune it first!!!!!!!!!!! Unless you want all your hard work to **** on itself. Car does sound great tho! What exhaust do you have on it? If your worried about valve train noise adjust the rockers when the cars running/warm. I dont suggest going past quarter of a turn. Mine are set at an eight and make alittle noise. But thats the price we pay for full roller rockers

Thanks for the comments. I didn't think running without a tune was as bad as some are making it out. The car does move pretty quick and the sound gets alot of attention/comments when I'm out and about. The exhaust is Pacesetter ceramic coated long tubes with no emissions hookups paired up to TSP rumbler true dual X-pipe setup. I have plenty of photos and info I can dig up if anyone is more curious about the exhaust.

I think if I broke it down... the expenses were probably around $2200 for cam and heads including all the misc stuff (glues/goops/greases and gaskets). The heads/cam were the biggest cost - $1650/300 - thats including core cost though. I will hopefully get some of that cost back.

As for total expense on this car, its hard to say. I started out with a completely bone stock 96 SS in 2003 which I modded and modded and modded with easy stuff (bolt ons and deletes), then I blew a head gasket and got a very mild rebuilt LT1 long block to swap in. I kept all my stuff and just swapped out the stock motor and sent it back as a core. Had the SS till 2009 and I kept adding little bits and pieces over time... Finally, I wrecked the SS and took everything I possibly could use out of it and migrated it all to this 97 Z28 I now have. During THAT motor swap, I upgraded the cam to LE 218/224 but all my other stuff stayed. This new car already had the LTCC setup so I left that and put my delteq on the shelf. Drove it for about a year and a half and broke a valve spring on a long trip. Come to find out that rebuilt LT1 I bought a ways back, was supposed to have upgraded springs and I never thought to check it against what LE recommended. Soooo... choice was to just get new, appropriate, springs or, bite the bullet and just get new heads with the new springs already on'em. (I've always wanted to do the heads anyway so... well,.. nuff said).

Tune is finally scheduled for this saturday. I'll post up results when I get'em. Everything seems to be running good right now but, obviously need the tune. I haven't been driving the car much.. mostly for a day or two after I got it running and staying very local. Wanted to make sure there were no weird sounds or failures looming prior to spending $300-400 on a dyno tune. The valvetrain chatter seems to be better and more folks have checked it out and said not to worry.

Sooooo... hoping to see HP #'s around 350-380 although, I'd be pleasantly surprised if I put down more. fingers crossed.

Alright... Got her tuned and the numbers were 354hp/351tq. Several pulls were made so, the numbers varied each time but, only by 2-4hp/tq. Cant complain at all. I mean, car sounds great and runs like a champ... ALTHOUGH,... cant help but, get that damn "I should have gotten the bigger cam" thought/feeling.. haha...

So, next up will be focusing on the looks department! No plans on being a show car but, 3 different colors, chipped paint, dents/dings, clear coat failure, and chrome flaking off the rims just isn't going to work for me. haha..

Sorry,.. I dont know why its double posting the YOUtube link... ???

Car sounds good. Did you ever find out that problem you were having? I think it was ignition issues. Tony is the man. He has got really good at tuning LT1's.
