'99 MBM trans am build thread
Ok so a little history... I bought this car from a dealership in Houston Texas "Global motorcars of Houston" back in november of 2012. DO NOT BUY FROM THEM!! The car was NOT acurately described in their listing and they did nothing to try and make things right. When it arrived it had a bad crankshaft position sensor and wouldnt run worth a ****. I replaced the sensor and it seemed to run fine until it warmed up.... The leaky MTI built 427 showed very low oil psi. I hooked up a mechanical oil pressure gauge and there was 10 psi at idle whereas on my other car there was well over 25psi at idle. I decided to cut my losses and park the car before causing any further damage. I planned to rebuild the dry sleeved 427 but unfortunately this motor is done and I decided to not throw any more money at it! A shim from the shaft mounted rocker arm stand broke in half and found its way through the engine down to the oil pan. Disassembly of the motor revealed a total of 6 spun bearings (3 main and 3 rod bearings) and deep scars on all remaining bearings, rods and the crank.. After I sold my ws6 I contacted Late Model Engines to build me a new short block, refresh the gtp heads, and spec a custom cam. It's no secret I got totally screwed buying this car and it sucks spending all this money but I'm having alot of fun building this car and making it MINE. Thank you guys for taking the time to check out the build and let me know what you think! and yes this car belonged to a member.

yea after this I'll always test drive before i buy, but ya live and ya learn. Since I've started working on this car i can tell it was taken care of. There's no way all the stock stuff on this car would be in such good shape with the power from that 427. Thanks man, the shop still needs alot of work but that's a whole different project!

Today I pulled the trans out of the blue car, it was pretty easy since the top 3 (hardest to reach) of the 8 bolts holding the trans to the bellhousing were GONE. Apparently someone didn't have the patience to reinstall them. I Also found out that wasn't a stock clutch in there. That Doesn't matter tho, I'll be going back with a new clutch and new slave/master cylinders.
Now I've got some cleaning to do.. There's still sand from the 3rd coast caked up on the trans and under the trans tunnel!
Cleaning the ws6's trans before it goes in the blue car!

so what was the deal with the car , guy from here probably knew the engine was going so he traded it to the dealership , and then you got it and they were not helpful at all?
Nice build , any plans for an aftermarket hood for the mbm . my favorite 4th gen color.

I definitely want a ram air hood. I really want a Mecham hood but I've heard the fit isn't great and I'm not even sure if you can still order them?
