my buddy has an 04 gto and i was just looking for some information. He recently put on a full stainless steel jba off road exhaust. during the install, one of the o2 sensors that would go after the cat was damaged. he has an emissions test coming up and needs to get it dyno tuned to tune out the codes for the off road exhaust. my question is, does he need to replace the damaged o2 sensor, or can it be tuned by just plugging up both of the holes for the after-the-cat sensors with bolts or something of the like?

The check engine light can be easily tuned out, but depending on how thorough the emissions testing is, they still might catch it. What state is that? Maybe somebody knows if you will be able to pass with retune

i am in illinois, and i know all the test consists of is an obd2 port test, no visual, no sniffer

You should be good then as long as all they do is check for active fault codes. You could do mail order tune fairly cheap

so does that mean we can due with just plugging up the o2 sensor holes?

Once the 02 sensors are tuned out then you can get rid of them, zip tie the harness out of the way, and plug the holes. Use either plugs or very short bolts so that it causes less restriction in exhaust.
And I assume no cats? If it still has the cats then just replace the damaged sensor.
