Default How to obtain 500hp?

I am still undecided on what route to go as far as induction goes ( ie. carb or FI) and have had great response with the carb guys. Now I want to ask the FI guys what all I would need so I can plan this all out.

Wanting to get a standard LQ4. Throw a cam in of course matched to heads. I was initially going to go with L92 heads but read more about where the power range is and Id rather stay lower in the rpm range for power. This will not be a dd or even a weekly driver. Its purely for pleasure with racing in mind. I will using a TH400 trans with a stall of whatever I need. Really Im just going for loud cam and fast. I know I sound like Im 16 but I guess I never grew out of this...

Question is how much is needed for 500 HP (at crank or thereabouts). Can I mill the 317 heads or get some 243's and mill or what. Trying to figure out what is more efficient in building minus the tuning aspect.

Thanks... Im a noob but Ive read so much on this already my eyes hurt and my wife is bitching about always being on here...

for 500 rwhp ,you will need good heads.look at Air Flow research,Trick flow ,or Texas Speed PRC heads..get a fast 102 intake and a 92mm TB.get a cam from Pat-G.now start saving $$$ .for 500 crank hp ,look at a texas speed head cam combo.

For a dd i would 2nd guess the th400,badass trans but pending on how much ya drive it you really might want over drive,500 crank is easy, just dont be bummed when the auto robs your power on the dyno,it will run better than it will show,i would for sure go with eps, what car is this going in?

No its not a daily driver. Not even a weekly driver. Its going in a 95 S10. Been a dream of mine since I was a kid.

So whats the deal with milling and porting some 317's or 243's? Will that and can get me there? If not carb route may be the way to go as it seems cheaper. Im retarded on tuning both so that will be left to a professional. I do however have EFI Live so I could do that if I went that route.

I have a pair of TSP 2.5 LS6 heads, a FAST 102/92, MS3 cam, and a bunch of other supporting mods sitting in my office waiting to get bolted on. I'm hoping to be close to 500hp at the wheels through a T56 once it's tuned.

You would be at 536 crank hp if you factor in a 20% loss though the auto with 429rwh. Plus you were on a mustang dyno.

Spray it with a 200hp shot of giggle juice, make 500hp to the tires and call it day.

nice heads and cam with full boltons would get you that easy.

what you go with will be determined by your budget.

If I could go back and start over I'd buy a used rear mount turbo system with a decent turbo and oil pump, get a good tune on safe low boost (5lbs) and call it a day with a good 480-490hp at the motor.

Instead us bolt on guys will go...

$200 CAI
$100 Lid
$80 Ported Throttle Body
$300 LS6 intake
$900 Headers/y-pipe
$400 Cat Back
$200 Under Drive Pulley
$2,180 Total

And then we end up with only 400-410hp at the motor. Buddy of mine sold his rear mount kit with an upgraded turbo for $900. All that was needed was a few random peices and an oil pump which most people upgrade anyway. I would have been all over it if I wasn't $2,000 into bolt ons already

I would think any h/c ls1 would be around 500 flywheel. Trickflow has a kit listed as 515hp with a tiny cam.
